It was the first time I’d ever seen the ocean, and although the sunrise wasn’t the type you read about in books; it was amazing.

...to live in a flat on a clifftop for 8 years where I saw the sun rise every day. Some days were grey and the sunrise was functional rather than beautiful, some days the sun rose before I did but many, many times (especially during the years I walked to college) I saw the sun rise over the sea and the beauty of the light on the water never failed to take my breath away.
I wish I had a digital camera back then!!
DocD is working on time travel.
I like to get up early and jog on the beach in Kailua just as the sun is coming up. It’s so peaceful with the lapping waves and the sky beginning to accept the morning light. Here’s a shot from a couple of months back when I was jogging on the beach in the early morning on Koh Samui in Thailand.

going on holidays in the beginning of october. and going to the seaside. the problem is: the sun sinks into the Baltic sea, not rises from it. pitty i missed the sunrise in Portugal. this is another goal that will only be completed sometime in the future, can’t even know when.

so we built a tent on the beach of algarve, portugal. it was an absolutely adorable, small, tidy and quiet beach. we were endangered of the ocean tide to overflow our temporary home. we drank beer and then a bottle of tequila, watched the stars and listened to music. we chatted into the night and set an alarm to waken us up at 5 to see the sunrise.
5 o’clock alarm: still dark, set it to 6 o’clock.
6 o’clock alarm: still dark, back to sleep.
7 o’clock: already bright but clowdy.
i did arrange it, i did try. but 1 thing is sure: sunrise can be missed. will try some other time again.

I did this in Italy and it was one of those moments where you think “I’m happy to be alive”, I really recommend it :).
Although I have done this, I havent done it since I added it to my list. Guess I’ll have to hit the beach tomro. (I live about an hour away from the coast, so not a big deal. But it sure is beautiful.
