It’s deserted, one of the last places untouched so it would be really special to see it.

Saw on the news last week that a band of adventurers aboard the MV Explorerwere sunk in the Antarctic ocean when they hit an iceburg. Fortunately no lives were lost. None of the news reports stated whether or not they actually made it to the Antarctic. What a bummer that would be. $5k to not make it to the Antarctic! Had I been there I would at least have fulfilled my goal of swimming in the Antarctic Ocean.
there… hear the silence…. look at snow and ice and water and birds and penguins ….

My girlfriend doesnt know about my 43things list but last night she had a dream that our work group were all on antarctica. There wasnt enough food for the barbeque and she had to go to Florida to get bread and butter. As you do.

I am fascinated by the story of Shackelton and the adventurers of the early 20th century. It must be a very great joy to stand on a continent that has no truck with trivial domestic duties or petty politics; a place which is so bound to its own power and vastness that it is impossible to think of anything but the moment. It would also be cool to build a snowman there that might stand untouched for decades.
