I accidentally received a text message on my cell phone last night from what I am presuming was a teenage girl asking someone for a favor.
In the text of the message, not only was it rife with “netspeak” (i.e. “ur 2 gud 2 b 4 rl”), but even the full words she used were mis-spelled!
I wanted to fire back a text to her explaining exactly what was wrong with everything she had said, but alas, that would have been several very lengthy messages to send and I incur additional charges on my cell phone for texts since I never use that feature.
Is it too difficult, with what everything cell phones do these days, to add a “spell and grammar check” function? Not that many teens would use it, but at least it would be there.
Of course, don’t even get me started on what I think is wrong with texting as a general form of conversation . . .

Not even remotely possible. Ignorance seems to thrive with new technology.

I was chatting with my little sister last night and she started to use Netspeak again. After I said something, she actually started to use real words, correct spelling, and even…hold your breath…punctuation!!! Suddenly she started to sound more like a college senior and less like a teenager. She even retyped a couple of things when she made grammatical mistakes. Miracles do happen!

OK, I was chatting with my little sis the other night and I finally had to start giving her some grief. Her response was “well, as long as people can understand what I mean…”. I told her that people could understand apes too, but that didn’t mean she had to type like one. Far be it from me to be an asshole (since our father fills that role admirably), but I just felt compelled to say something.
