It was actually pretty fun!  — 2 years ago

OK…so I’ve seen most of the stuff before at state fairs down in the lower 48. But, I got to see some awesome hoop dancers (something not practiced out on the rez here in AK). And to see the look on my girlfriends face when she saw the CND military there. We talked to an F-18 flight mechanic and he proceeded to tell me (tongue and cheek of course) how the military has lowered their standards and they would even accept me. All they wanted was a pulse and two working legs. No thanks…you couldn’t pay me enough! 10 years of prior service…no way! We missed the rodeo but stuck around for the wagon races. My GF was hesitant to go, but admitted to really getting into it! Two horse died that night, and of course that was really sad…but the races were really fun! OMG….and whatever you do! DO NOT STAY FOR THIS YEARS STAGE SHOW! I love CND like the next guy…but how many times can you say that in one show without it getting a little repetitious?

We camped up in the foothills and that was wonderful. I’d recommend it to anyone going to the Stampede.

I’d like to go next year but only for the rodeo.

All in all a pretty fun experience.

Thanks Catherine for indulging me.

my family and i go every year. it’s fun each time. this year i spent a lot of time in the sheep shearing contest, and that was really interesting because i had never seen that before. the best part about the stampede is the whole town gets into it. for example, banks will paint their windows downtown, and shops will put hay bales by the door. it’s neat. i do reccomend wearing comfortable shoes. although everyone wears boots, it’s better just to be comfortable.

A great excuse to spend money. The concerts were the reason we went, saw Nelly Furtado which was amazing!

Free concerts, great food, Grand Stand show was amazing! I pet cows and watched show horses. It was so worth it.

Not worth it!

If you live in Calgary, this Stampede thing is not meant for you, it’s for the tourists.

I live in Calgary, so every year it is pretty much the same. However for the first time it is a great experience, and a great party.

I’ve gone to the calgary stampede three years now. I love it. Especially the concerts. They weren’t that good this year… I’m hoping for something better next year. The rides are good too. and the grandstand show!

Not going down to the grounds, at least.  — 3 years ago

Not worth it!

I’ve lived here my entire life, and haven’t enjoyed the crowds, extremely overpriced food & bevvies (and everything else), irritating country music, excrutiatingly long washroom lines and fully grown adults dressing up in ridiculous ‘western’ outfits since I was a teenager.

Having said that, I still do have fun with the various parties around the city and the free (or close to free) breakfasts that take place every day.
