I am currently in the process of planning a trip to ride my motorcycle from New Hampshire to Rio Je Janiero. Frankly I haven’t any idea how to go about planning something like this. I know Columbia is dangerous. Thats about it. I speak Spanish almost fluently. Any advice?

I’m heading up a charity ride from Portland, Oregon, USA to Tierra del Fuego and back. The goal is to raise a ton of money to help treat childhood diseases. My plan is to ride a motorcyle from Texas to Southern tip of Chile. My cusin who always responds to my suggestions with “ok, when do we leave?” has naturally aggreed to make the trip with me. This is day one of my research and planning. I found this site in my first google search for information needed to make this trip. The plan was concieved last week during five days of trail riding in Moab, Utah. These initial goals may change but we plan on making the trip for a total cost not to exceed $12,000 each (this includes the cost of bikes) and we expect to complete the trip in four weeks.
I will update plans as the research developes.

I will be riding from Canada to South America (hopefully getting to Argentina) this year (date TBC).

The Plan: Ride from Rio De Janeiro through Iguaçu Falls up to Bolivia end in La Paz Bolivia

I am trying to figure out the way to either buy a bike in brazil or have on shipped from Miami maybe. I would like to have at least 6 months to plan this trip but have two questions:

What’s the best time of year for this Journey?
What’s the best bike?
Is it possible to get any sponsorship?

A good friend of mine wants to come as well, I live in Alexandria VA and have been riding motorcycles and dirt bikes for a while.
I lived many years in Bolivia so I’m familiar with the people and the ways down south.

I’m in the process of working out my plan for this adventure… I’m looking at the calendar and thinking late spring 2007. I’ve got a few books and have been researching thinks such as the shipping of my bike across Panama… as well as the fact that I need to find a good bike for this adventure… any thoughts?

even though it won’t be happening in the near future. When I see this goal it makes me daydream and that’s a good thing.

The route would be Sao Paulo/Brazil-Foz do Iguazu/Brazil-Resistencia/Argentina-Santa Fe/Argentina-Cordoba/Argentina-San Juan/Argentina-Mendoza/Argentina-Santiago/Chile-La Serena/Chile-Antofagasta/Chile-San Pedro de Atacama/Chile(the GOAL)-Antofagasta/Chile-La Serena/Chile-Santiago/Chile-Mendoza/Argentina-Buenos Aires/Argentina-Montevideo/Uruguay-Porto Alegre/Brazil-Florianopolis/Brazil-Sao Paulo/Brazil. Does anyone are planning to do this in Jan-2007? If necessary, I can change the route, but I have only 15 days to do that, after that I´m getting married….
