The Olmo is finally out on the road. I’ve been riding to my dog walking job in the afternoons and yesterday Matt and I rode to the end of the NoHo bike path somewhere up by Florence. Small things, but I’m riding, and I hope to never use my car when I get to Providence.
How to start biking
How I did it: did 1 mile one day, then slowly stretched it out while respecting my physical limits, until i got to 3 miles after 3wks. and then it got fun and it took off. I'm up to 20 miles per ride after 2 months.
Lessons & tips: get off your ass and just do it.

Finally got up early enough to go for a ride before work. Wow am I out of shape; It was enjoyable torture though and made me realize I need to quit smoking sooner than later if I want to become good at this hobby.
I got my bike already to go a few months ago, but haven’t even taken it around the block. Grad school started and consumed most my time during the fall and begins next week. I’m not sure where this one is going to go.
It’s done… we finally got it done, or mostly Matt got it done, and I’ve finally ridden it. Of course, the day after it got finished, Massachusetts decided to snow. Ah well.
I have to finish building up my bike before I can start riding it. So I suppose the fact that the seat post is in my mailbox and the bottom bracket is flying somewhere over South Dakota means that, part by part, I am making my way towards starting.
A friend pumped up my tires and replaced some essential parts so I’m ready to go tomorrow. I just hope the inner tubes hold up since they haven’t been used in years.
Well, I have yet to hop on the bike. So I’m thinking I need a more specific goal.
Since I started graduate school on Monday, I feel like the last thing I need is one more time-consuming activity. However, part of me believes exercise will give me more energy and clear-mindedness.
So my goal is to bike once within the next two weeks. This means pumping up my tires, figuring out what to do with my two and four year-old boys, and hitting the road.
If I can achieve this, then I’ll set the next micro-step!
I live in one of the most beautiful areas in the country with mild temperatures and very little rainfall. Outside my door there are numerous routes, bike trails, the ocean, a state park, etc. I just need to get out the door!
