Just watched the tale end of a lonely planet program about lanterns in asia. i have no idea where those lanterns are being let go but i’ll try to set the scene.
it’s around a train track. people are everywhere. old and young. the large and the tiny. everyone is smiling. today is the day they get to release their lanterns into the sky.
these lanterns used to be used in times of war i’m told by this short sharp program. they were sent into the air to alert the women and children that the time of danger had passed and they could return to their homes from their hill retreats. these days they they are released with good wishes and thanks.
everyone smiles. everyone is happy. the trains chug by with a stout alert of their passing with their horn. wishes start there crackling journey into the night sky. crackle. crackle. crackle.
time to investigate the six degrees of separation.
i believe it was a six degrees production by lonely planet, although one can never be sure. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/
