How to live without TV for a month
How I did it: Well, my mom is basically a single mom in that she supports both me and my brother completely. She didn't want to have us worrying about paying for tuition, so to save us the stress of working and being in school at the same time, she paid it for both of us.
My mother is a teacher, so in order to do this when my older brother went off to college, our lives were downsized; we moved into a really small apartment, she took on a lot of extra jobs, and - as it says in the title - we got rid of the TV.
Lessons & tips: Brainstorm all of the things you can do without your TV - go on walks, go out with friends, see shows, etc. There's a million things to do out there.

Rather than stopping watching TV, I just started doing more things and suddenly there was no time for tv.
Highly recommended! Choose rich experiences over passive entertainment.

We can’t afford cable (which really helps) and there isn’t really anything I’d watch (except for the news) on the channels we can pick up with bunny-ears. We are, however, subscribed to Blockbuster and watch a ton of movies (which doesn’t count, in my opinion). No commercials, no worrying about what kind of crap your putting into your mind, no days wasted just watching TV.
I miss the History channel, though.
BUT…I get to read MUCH more!

I would recommend this one, as during my hiatus from TV I actually became a lot more sociable and went out with friends a lot more, which got a lot less as soon as I started watching a lot of TV again.

I just haven’t gotten around to hooking up the TV!
I’m going to miss the National Geographic Explorer documentary I worked on. “Daytona Biker Rally”. Oh, well.

When I left for L.A. on 5/20, my TV got packed up and shipped. I still haven’t hooked it up, although the guy who hooked up my broadband said I have basic cable.
I’ve watched some DVD’s on my computer, and a bunch of shows on iTunes (I mean, come on; Studio 60 is genius), and a few times I’ve been in a restaurant with the TV on, but that’s pretty unavoidable.
All my choices were on purpose, and ad-free. Nothing just “because it was on.”
I didn’t set out to do it, but obviously it wasn’t that painful.
I probably won’t set up the TV until I have a glass tabletop made for my antique trunk, and then I’ll set up the gear there. No big rush.
this is easy, i am so busy right now…its not even an option. I did sometimes fall into the habit of turning the tv on to kill time or when bored and am doing this goal just to keep away from doing that. tv is eeeevil. I am hoping to go three months even
