I was a bit of a yo-yo on this goal. I originally thought I’d save some of the bean, zucchini and corn seeds from my garden, but then I decided for next year I want an heirloom garden. No point in saving the seeds when I want totally different kinds of vegetables for next year, right?
So I gave up on it!
But then the sunflower out front that grew from spilled birdseed shriveled up and died, leaving behind several flower heads with lots of seeds. So I pulled it up, brought it in and collected the seeds into an old baby food container.
I had just saved seeds!
Coincidentally that same day when I put laundry on the line, I walked through a patch of cow vetch, a pretty weed that I prefer to call wildflower. I noticed it had a ton of seeds, so I pulled off a decent sized handful and saved those into another baby food jar.
So I’m saving seeds after all. It’s just not veggie seeds. :P

So this year, I’m making sure all my veggies are heirloom seeds, and non-hybrids so I can save their seeds. of course, I’m not sure how it will work if I move out of my parents houses, but I’ll make it work. come by and gather seeds?

My great friend Hippie James saved seeds like an all time pro. I love James and I’m going to save seeds. I just ordered some tomato seeds that will give me neon green heirloom tomatoes. I also ordered this broccoli that makes this wild pointed spiral. I don’t know how to save broccoli seeds… But the Tomatoes will Be FOREVER.

On a walk in St Paul last week I saw a huge hedge of morning glories climbing a fence, lovely dark pink flowers, so me and A. picked the dry pods and squeezed them into an envelope. I haven’t planted them yet, but if I can ‘wildcraft’ some seeds that would be great. The real challenge is to save vegetable seeds for next year, from tomatoes, peppers, etc, and protect them from heat and damp.
