Not Snorkelled at the Great Barrier Reef yet but recently snorkelled around the reef system at Key West, Florida!! These reefs extend from near Stuart, on the Atlantic coast, to the Dry Tortugas, west of Key West, in the Gulf of Mexico, it’s the third largest living reef system in the World!! The reefs here are spectacular and rival those of many Caribbean areas!! Approximately 6,000 coral reefs are found between Key Biscayne and Dry Tortugas.
It was amazing, like being in another world, I saw many different species of fish, my favourite sightings being a Turtle, Shark and Barracuda!! I managed to get a photo of the Turtle, but unfortunately my film ran out before I spotted the Shark and Barracuda!! I followed behind the Shark, but it disappeared over the top of the Reef, it was around 3 to 4 feet in length, and I’m trying to find out what kind of Shark it was, it was most probably a type of Reef Shark but not certain until I do more research!! I was more intimidated by the Barracuda than the Shark!! It was fantastic – cant wait to do it again!! I was more pleased when I went back to the boat and discovered I was the only one to see the Turtle and Shark, although I was upset to have missed a large Stingray that passed by!!!
