I did this two and a half years ago, and we’re still happily married. Only the most hardcore people elope, by the way.
How I did it: We went down to City Hall and got the license. We were asked basic questions such as name, date of birth and address. After we had the license we had sixty days to get married. We chose the Friday of a three day weekend. We shopped for clothes, booked a hotel room and asked a friend to be our witness.
Lessons & tips: Be prepared for questions and remarks from friends and family. Some people may be very upset about your decision.

I am new to this, so bear with me…I am trying to secretly plan for an elopement that is going to happen in the next two months…We want to have the traditional ‘reception’ but can’t see it happening for another year or more…we are ready now. So we recently decided to elope and save the trouble. I am looking for suggestions from people that have done this…We are thinking of going to Bodega Bay or another coastal town in Northern California with just our families.
Where should we start?

I got invited to apply for a job about 500 km from where I stay now and when I told the man I want to marry about it, he said he wished he could go with me… I wonder if he’d come if I asked him to, as my husband!

Yes, it’s good to have everyone in place, but I am still wondering about the groom-to-be… I have to bite my bottom lip every time I see him not to blurt out those terrible, terrible words that’ll send him packing faster than lightning…
It’s a leap year, and I’m dying to ask HIM to marry ME, but what happens if he says “yes”?

I can now count a Magistrate in my circle of acquaintances… So along with the poor prospective groom, his best friend, my boss… I think we can arrange a quick wedding… ;-)

I am looking at the expenses and effort my brother and his fianceĆ© are going into to get hitched, and wondering if it won’t be less expensive and more meaningful to get married secretly, go on our honeymoon and afterwards just let everyone who needs to, know. And maybe have a more intimate, less formal party to celebrate the union…
I still want my marriage ceremony to be performed by a minister, though, even if it’s an elopement, but it’s the big DO that I don’t want to endure…
Big weddings are boring, I don’t want to register and I think it would be way more fun to just hop on a plane and go on vacation. Eloping. It just makes good sense. I just need to find a man now.
I just gave up on wedding planning.
My almost-husband and I are going to elope!!!! Hooray! We’re going to do it somewhere here in Philly. Then we’re going to have a big party on the original wedding date. And so I still get to wear my dress (it’s red), have dancing, see my friends, eat food, but not have to worry about the damn ceremony! whoooo!
