"Congrats you have chosen a challenging yet rewarding instrument!!"

How I did it: I started out in 6th grade. It was pretty hard, I definately wasn't that good! I practiced almost everyday for at least 30 minutes. I wanted to be good at something so, I put in the time. Do lip exercises and intervals to strengthen endurance and embourcure(spell check lol) Stick to it don't worry bout high notes in beginning. They will come with practice, trust me!

Lessons & tips: Don't quit when something gets tough. You will get better. If I learned, you can! Great instrument, i mean, we almost always get the melody! You will love it! Keep practicing!

Resources: If you can't afford lessons, find a music student to help you. They are looking for experiene so the will possibly go it for free. If you are a student ask your band director, that's what they are there for. You CAN do it!!  I BELIEVE in YOU!!!!

    Every time I hear the trumpet – whether it is in Imelda May’s band or the Special’s Ghost Town – I get really happy.

    I have no musical talent. I tried to learn the piano when I was a kid and it scared me. I don’t even know if I could read music. I would love to learn, I think it would open up a new dimension to life – shall we get cracking?

    Okay, I can't play "Black Magic Woman" 16 months ago

    But I’ve got a fair enough handle on the instrument. I feel comfortable enough to tell people I play trumpet, or at least as comfortable as anyone would be saying that, really.

    I need to make more tangible goals. As for this one, I’ve been playing trumpet in public for over a year now. There are kids in the school band who don’t even know I played anything else before. I want to check this off. I don’t know when I will. Maybe when I can play a cover of “Black Magic Woman.”

    I need advice on buying a trumpet. If I’ve never played before, how can I know which trumpet has a great sound and timbre? Also, I don’t know anyone who plays the trumpet, so I couldn’t ask them to help me buy one!

    Realizing a dream.... 2 years ago

    I have dreamed of playing trumpet since hearing Buena Vista Social Club, but never had the money to get one. But this past weekend I went to this huge flea market in New Jersey and from all the way on the other side I heard the most beautiful trumpet sound. I followed it, and found one of the vendors, a musician was selling his own trumpet of many years for $125, because he had gotten a new one. I bought it right there.

    It’s been three days, and I can’t get a sound out of it…. I’m starting to get nervous….

    ...and my neighbors hate me.
