I was in Puerto Rico for a month from Dec 27/07 to January 24th/08 and though it hasn’t been too long, I miss the place already. I was staying with my boyfriend and his mom who lives there on the 8th floor of an apartment building with a beautiful view of the city of Mayaguez. I miss the palms, I miss the beaches, I miss the weather, I miss the atmosphere (especially since it was around Christmas time, there were a lot of lights and decorations, and music)I miss the food, I miss my Puerto Rican friend Zoe and my boyfriend’s family, and I miss the music coming from my bf’s mom’s radio that would play almost constantly in the kitchen. It is happy music that really reminds you that you’re in the Caribbean.
And since I’ve been working on my Spanish even more, the next time I visit Puerto Rico, it will be even more fun.
Must go back, and soon! <3 4 years ago

I arrived March 26th. Everything went smoothly; my grandmother had NO clue that I was going to be there. When I arrived at her door she was pleasantly surprised. I was with my friend Sarah and I hate that it rained the ENTIRE time we were there but honestly, it didn’t matter to me. It was like I had never left…I remembered where everything was as I successfully weaved my way in and out of traffic. Blame it on the rain but the place that I call home looked so poor. Everything was where I left it (with the exception of Plaza del Caribe’s trademark carousel) but it seemed so solitary…so dark and gloomy. I didn’t care…there’s really NO PLACE LIKE HOME. I enjoyed every second that I was there and I had to hold back tears as we took off from San Juan. I can’t wait to go back again…I’m supposed to be going back on the 16th for Las Justas…my fellow Boricuas know EXACTLY what I’m talking about! Wish me luck!! 6 years ago

tickets are purchased, housing arrangements have been made, the abuelita has been informed. :) Now I just count down until my flight leaves, and pull all those warm-weather clothes down from my attic. 6 years ago

I’ve been to Puerto Rico three times so far, and absolutely love it. We have tons of family, so every time we’ve gone I’ve met new relatives I never knew existed. The only problem with it is the heat (I’m a snow-type of girl) and that I usually go with my family. I want to go with just friends sometime, because I think I’d have a lot more fun.
El Yunque is absolutely beautiful, and I love to climb the big tower to see the view. My favorite place ever, (besides on a mountain with my snowboard) however, is on Flamenco Beach on the island of Culebra (still part of PR). If you ever have the chance to then DO IT! Pure, white sanded beach with clear/aqua water and…well you get the picture =) I <3 it!
My friend and I might be taking a cruise in May/June so maybe we’ll stop by there during our trip. I hope so! 6 years ago
