I used to sit in the zoology lab looking through a microscope or dissecting a smelly dogfish, and produce accurate pencil records of everything I did or fail my practicals. I still have drawings that were technically very good but artistically boring. Those crayfish digestive tracts got me my grades but I wouldn’t put them on the bedroom wall. I can’t sketch landscapes, and I couldn’t capture a human face even though I went to figure drawing classes. How on earth do people manage to make a piece of paper come alive with a pencil?
