I don’t know if I can do ANYTHING for 6 hours straigh any more… but I’m looking to re-initiate the D&D in me and become a DM and host a game this summer, so who knows. As they say, time flies when you’re having fun!

Cross-posted to the 72 hour Gaming challenge
We started a AD&D game at lunchtime at school on a Thursday, just before a 3-day weekend. After school we all got together with our freshly made characters (8 of us) at my buddy’s house and settled in for an entire 3-day weekend of gaming.
I usually ran games for my friends, but we thought it would be fun if the 4 of us that were GMs “passed the stick” every couple of hours. Within a single “round” of “passing the stick” it became obvious that the group as a whole preferred that I should run the game “full time.”
Anyway, we made minor concessions for group members leaving to pick up food for the group, but until around Sunday morning no one had fallen asleep. On Sunday evening we promised to continue the game the following weekend, but I went ahead and wrapped up some of the loose ends of the story.

I am accustom to playing in 12+ hour games and they are the best. Sunday Noon to Midnight. “Marathon” games are fun, give it a try!

we used to stay up all night, actually. I think there was a whole weekend devoted to one session (we would let the GM doze off while we devised strategy…) I think that’s the time my level 1 MU got credit for casting a ‘wish’ spell…

Back in the mid-80’s, I played in a local D&D tournament for around 60 hours. Aside from entertaining the local gaming community, the tournament had a worthy purpose as well: we raised money for a charity by soliciting donations for the number of hours played.
I say that I played for around 60 hours chiefly because towards the end I began hallucinating and had to be rescued by my family. Nothing dangerous occured, other than irritating a few folks by pushing their belonging off a table so that I could lay down and catch some much needed sleep.

But not late at night- much better to start after lunch and go until night time. You keep more lucidity.
The real key is to make sure the DM gets a break!

players get so much more done when they have less time. The only thing waiting for you at the end of a long night of role-playing is a bunch of people making silly mistakes.
