Definitely a worthy thing to do! The best way to mix charity with pleasure! Done the Glade and Leeds festival last year, had loooads of fun, met loads of cool people, saw some really good bands, got into the festivals for free with good perks like private camp site with clean showers and toilets and had £300 donated to charity in my name!
Going to do the big Glasto this year! Might be doing more if my schedule permits.

The Festival I wanted to do (Greenman) is apparently hugely popular with stewards, and so by the time I was able to apply, it was already full. Oh well.
But now I have tickets for another (very tiny) festival which I wasn’t planning on, so still should hit my “Four Festival” target for the year. And since my motivation is purely meet people and get into the festival for free, rather then some desire to offer my services to charity, then a small and cheap festival fits the bill just as well.
Next year I’ll be aiming for Five Festivals, so Greenman might be back on then.

Changing jobs means that this year I have less holidays, and I don’t have the arrangement to take time off without pay for charity work. (Which this is – technically). I also don’t have flexi-time to get an extra couple of days by working an extra hour here and there.
But the new job also means I can actually afford to get tickets to events as well, so I can still get to lots of festivals. I still want to do one (Greenman is most likely) so I can say I’ve done it.

I think I can seriously cover four festivals as a steward next year, probably:
Wychwood
Greenman
Big Chill
WOMAD
Maybe others, as well. Oxfam do provide stewards for Glastonbury as well, but I’ll be doing that as full paid guest.
But it’s a good way to get into lots of festivals for free, obvously in exchange for working some shifts (Usually 3 shifts, of 8 hours) for the logistics to work though, I need to learn to drive.
