How to be a teacher

How I did it: I went to the school district office to apply to be a substitute teacher. When I got there, I was told they weren't hiring substitutes, but they would hire me as a regular classroom teacher and train me. I spent a year as pre-intern, and then 3 years in the intern program. It was a big time commitment, but I don't have (extra) student loans hanging over me, and I was working and earning money while I worked for my credential. Lessons & tips: If your school district offers an intern program for teachers to get their credentials, take advantage of it! |

How I did it: University MA/Teacher Certification Program. I took most of the required education courses as an undergraduate but would have had to stay undergraduate for another year in order to student-teach, so I graduated with my English degree, then re-applied to the School of Ed. as a graduate student. This was an efficient choice because, in order to continue teaching, I would need to pursue my Master's degree anyway! Read how I did it…

Yay! I’ve passed my PGCE. I am now officially a teacher :-) Phew that was hard work. Now looking forward to a relaxing summer and preparing to start my job in september!!
So..its always been my dream to be a teacher and now I’m at university studing to be 1!!
But since my placements I’v relised that this job is much harder than I thought! I have a long way to go in self confidance and other areas before becoming a good teacher.
Its about 5 weeks untill my 5 week placement were I will be teaching more and being more involved with the children, I need to practice behaviour strategys and also start coming up with good lesson plans to use =D

ive just literally finished my first placement and am visiting my second one tomorrow. weird to believe im 2/3 way through my course already! just over 3 months then im qualified, better start looking for jobs
I want to be an early childhood teacher and work with kids with Austim, and other disabilities. I am working on completing my course work now
I want to be a kindergarten-second grade teacher but if I dont end up getting becoming a nurse practitioner, which I probably wont do, even though it sounds really cool and great, I want to get my masters so I can teach whatever I want. I love small children though so no matter what I do I will be with them and love them all.
Gave my first talk on economic theory (value, exchange, price) and the challenges of digital money – and for the first time ever, I “presented” without any slides or a computer; just me, a few notes on paper and a small crowd of 20.
Once I started talking and stuck to my script, everything went smooth and easy and I could talk freely. The talk was way too long for the time slot, but still pretty well received, I even got positive feedback. I enjoyed the experience and I hope to get another chance soon.
Oh… having a few glasses of red wine obviously helped :)
