Marie Goodart wondering where the "try this again" goals end up
Why do I need a reason to create a portfolio? I can make a list of all the things I might possibly use my portfolio for, and make links to each of these ‘audiences’ I can create many pages that are just for my personal website, and put them into a different category of the website, not under portfolio, or chose not to publish them at all!
This “portfolio” idea has changed over the past few years. I have help students create writing portfolios, art portfolios and I have created a professional teaching portfolio for possible employers… I was hoping to create my own art portfolio, but I have not actually produced any of my own art in quite a while.
So, I have contented myself in this goal to at least be helping other students with their portfolios. It just keeps giving… :)
I want to put together a graphics and photography portfolio with all my work. I want a physical portfolio, plus a web site. I want it all to have a consistent theme with resume, business card, email stationary, etc.
I have a lot of pieces to sift through, so I’ve decided to pick one piece every day until I have a good sized portfolio of my best pieces.

So, this goal has been pushed to be finished because I decided to finish my design class with a portfolio of all my class work at the end of fall quarter. Now I just need to continue adding to it and improving its quality. Hopefull write more…perhaps journal entries will help, but I’m not sure how to start. Electronically? Daily? etc. Perhaps my grandpa can give some input, he keeps a 10-year/5-year journal and writes entries everyday.

Making my portfolio has been delayed by the fact that I’ve decided to wait a year before applying to grad school. Either delaying graduation and being a part-time student next fall, or finding a job that offers experience in the field and portfolio opportunites. Perhaps both at the same time, but I perfer to be a full-time student, or a full-time employee. It’s just easier that way.

Worked on my overall portfolio design today AND my resume. It’s turning out really well! I also have plans to make a website with my own domain name, but that’s a reward for finishing my portfolio to begin with. ;)
The requirements for the college I’m applying for is 12 pages, no larger than 8.5×11” and no more than a 1/2” optional binding.
In other words, nothing fancy! I’m thinking of focusing on my technical design skills and showing them visually, and then adding my sustatinable design work and architectural building plans from my internships to balance it out. Yin and yang!

I found a great book on how to design an architect’s portfolio and now all I have to do is take the time to gather all the materials. All of my work is of course in Washington, so this goal will have to wait a little while.
