This is a good week to try this. It’s the holidays.

How I did it: At my school, there was No Television Week. I signed up to take part of it. It was really hard. I didn't realize I watched TV so much. But I found a way around it. When I felt like I was gonna die if I didn't watch TV, I asked my dad (who wasn't part of it) to turn the TV onto some boring channel. Then, I closed my eyes and listened. I sorta cheated, but it worked! Whenever I did this, I would either fall asleep or go do something else. I… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I enrolled in 13.5 accelerated credit hours in school. This meant I had to complete them in half a semester. It was like taking 27 credit hours (though thank goodness it only lasted half the time). There was no time for TV... or anything else for that matter. Read how I did it…

I’m not sure when I entered this goal, but I’d say I’ve watched about 15min of TV in the past 5 days.
I’m on holidays this week, so it will really test me. I’ll have to make sure I don’t just spend my time on the computer instead though!

I was going to say “Watch less TV,” but that is so non-specific. I would actually have to know how much TV I am watching every day in order to be able to watch less TV.
Besides, this sounds harder and I am a glutton for self punishment. I am starting a 7 day cleanse tomorrow. I will start a mental cleanse as well by cleansing TV out of my life.
at first i can’t really believe that i reached this goal, even i had extended the period to ONE whole month. its awsum, and i never will regret on doing it.
good luck for those who in progress..

This is surprisingly hard to do. I went for a week without TV during National Turn Off TV week. We have TVs and every room in our house. And my parents weren’t turning off the TV.
But it’s worth it. Think of all things you could be doing with TV time.
The happiest person I’ve ever known didn’t own a television, DVD player, computer or playstation. Every evening his family would talk, tell stories, sing and play board games. I envied him.
Not watching TV for a week was very helpful… Between reading more often (read: at all) and getting a sort of normal sleep schedule from not sitting up watching trivial shows and I don’t know what else, I’m very glad I did it and I decided to make a new rule for myself to turn the TV off if there’s not anything on I actually want to watch.
There were a couple of disadvantages: periodically I would feel the pangs of wanting to just sit around and relax with minimal thought. (Although sitting outside with a book was equally relaxing) Also, after years of watching TV with any less-than-fancy home meal (yes, even with my family), I found it a little unsatisfying to just sit at the table eating, or trying not to get cereal milk on the pages of my book.
on the sofa watching/listening to whatever could be found. It’s time to convert tv back to a social only event, and free time for more fullfilling activities.
