Need a duplex

I need to have my aging mom closer to me, but we both know we can’t share a house. I’m looking for a duplex to buy in a nice neighborhood in Ventura CA.

How I did it: Through a friend I found a realtor. She showed me places for 10 months before I found one I was satisfied with. I felt stressed after submitting my offer. The stress came from having 2 realtors between me and the buyer. I didn't like the go-between way of communication. I was very very glad when the process was done. Next time I'll be doing for sale by owner.
Lessons & tips: Take a first time home buyers course! It was nice to go through the process the first time with a realtor. But next time I think I'll eliminate the middleman and look at for sale by owners.
