I grew up on a Cal 28 in Southern California. 13 months ago

And I fantasized about living aboard a boat in college, seeing as how living aboard would be cheaper than rent. I just never owned a boat myself.

So, now I’m thinking about it, for the next phase of my life. Don’t know when, not even sure it will happen.

That’s why it’s called a goal.

Paperwork, insurance, and other hassles 2 years ago

Ok,I’ve been plugging away at the “boaty” projects for about a month now and they are getting done one by one. That is feeling good. I’ve been on several marinas “live aboard” list for just over 4 months now (it seems that the marinas around here {southern Puget Sound} limit their liveaboard moorage to around 10% of the total marina capacity) and have finally gotten an offer of a slip. After a scramble for insurance and some other paperwork I’ll be moving to my new digs the middle of next week, and it couldn’t have worked out better as my house sitting gigs are running out with the end of Summer. My advice to anybody anticipating living aboard at a marina would be to get on their lists early, maybe even before you have “the boat” as long as you have a general idea of what size slip you’ll need. Ah well, off to the boat to seal up some new portlights before it rains later this weekend. TTFN

Picking away at the "endless" list 2 years ago

It’s been a while since I set this goal but I’m getting close… bought a boat (1978 s2 9.2c center cockpit sailboat) and got it in sailing condition, at least good enough to move from Seattle to Olympia, where I live. Took a couple of refresher sailing classes as it had been some time since I’d been at the tiller. Secured moorage in Olympia, moved the boat, and then took off to Alaska for a gig that I promised to do there some time back, left in early June and returned in late July. Now I’m just working on Puffin getting her ready for winter and sailing when I can. I’m also waiting to rotate to the top of the “live aboard” list (the marinas around here that allow liveaboards cap it at about 10 percent) I’ve also really trimmed back on the stuff that I own. Before I left for Alaska I moved out of my one bedroom apartment into a 4×6 storage locker, the boat, and a bit of overflow in my studio/shop. All the furniture got given away or sold, lots of stuff went to the “free store” or goodwill. Kept some stuff that was garage sale worthy and am planning one with a friend soon. It really is amazing how much a person can acquire in a couple of years, even when trying to be conscious about it. The boat itself has needed a good clean up (was closed up for the winter, lots of mildew and yuck) and lots of odds and ends that any 30 year old boat would need, I’m really having fun with it though.

Sailing off this next weekend 3 years ago

Next weekend, CV Yacht Club has its “End Of The Summer Raft-Up”
It will be held in La Playa Cove, San Diego Bay. We should have between Fifteen and Twenty boats. Dinner a Miguel’s Cantina on friday night, dancing, drinking. Saturday is pot luck dinner great friends and unreal food. What to make…?GOD! I love sailing,I will leave on Thursday afternoon and make my way down the coast to SD Bay.
I am trying to set up a trip to Catalina Island in October for opening day of Lobster season. last month I went with a group of boats to the island for a week of racing and partying, we saw tons of lobsters but couldn’t take a one…. if you take one now (out of season)it’s off to jail you go. The California Fish and Game don’t play nice, they will handcuff you up in a heart beat. The next thing you know is your puting lipstick on for bubba in a 9X9 cell until your trial.

The spear fishing this year has been ok, the water temp has been in the high 70’s (74, 76) makes diving fun. I need to find a friend male or female who loves to dive. I guess I’ll have to post a singles add for a girlfriend who loves to sail and can SCUBA. any one out there that may fit the bill?
