organize my dvd collection

I love watching films, and currently have about 350 from all different genres, from Action to Western (I don’t think there’s a genre that begins with Z!) They are organized in alphabetical order but this means whenever I buy a new one I have to move a massive stack of them. I need to update my Excel list of them and also figure out a better way of storing them.

I had about 90 DVDs that I was constantly alphabetizing, when I finally broke down and started writing a web site to do it. It took forever, but I’ve now built it into a public place where you can build your own Online DVD Collection

It only takes a few minutes to import your collection online and once you do you can share it with friends (you get your own link), search through your movies, sort them, etc. C’mon over, create an account and see what you think. Let me know your feedback!

Well I’ve just catalogued all my dvds!!! I made an Excel document organized by movies and series, and categorized movies by genre! FINALLY! Interestingly enough this all was triggered by the fact that I couldn’t find the first half of a season of Cheers!

I need to make a list of all the dvds I have. Its gotten to the point where I forget what I have and what seasons of what shows I have yet to buy. Plus, they’re scattered all over the place. My dvd cabinet is full.

These sneak up on me too, at least with the digital photos I don’t have tons of prints and negatives lying about. I need to find a way to organize movies. I am thinking by genre, then alphabetically. The problem with that is each new addition will force me to remove a considerable amount of movies to make room for the newest addition. Ggrrr. Any ideas? I welcome them as this has my head spinning a bit LOL!

I have them all stored out of their cases and in DVD albums right now. The problem is I have to look through a couple of albums to find what I’m looking for. I’d like to buy or build an apothecary style cabinet where the DVD’s can stand on end (like a card catalog) with each drawer representing a letter of the alphabet.

yeah, so i categorized by genre, labeled the dvd albums, and catalogued the dvds in Delicious Library. i didn’t alphabetize them because that would have been way too anal for me, plus i would have to keep up with it every time we added a new dvd to the collection. but this is good-feel like watching a particular kind of movie-just either go to the labeled album, or my computer. my husband thinks i’m a dork, but he was the one complaining about the mess, so….

this is on my list for this week. i want to get this done before this month is over, and it will be done!
