I currently play the trombone and a bit of piano, so I’m thinking the next instrument I learn should be either a string or reed instrument. Maybe the alto saxophone

I joined my school’s chorus when I was seven. I took compulsory recorder classes that year as well. I hated singing and took up violin for the next two years. I didn’t much like the new violin teacher at my middle school, so I chose band. I was talked out of playing flute or clarinet and chose bass clarinet instead. I joined marching band when I was thirteen and quit the following year to focus on increasingly rigorous studies. Three years later, I joined a little philharmonic at my university. We don’t have aspirations to play professionally, but we love playing. Along the way I’ve picked up two Thai instruments.
So the question now is, what’s next?
prufock is working.
My main instrument is the guitar. I also play a bit of bass, drums, keys, and can fumble around with a few other instruments. I’d like to get more proficient in those, but I also want to expand my repertoire. A list of instruments I’d like to become proficient in:
Harmonica
Accordian
Saxaphone
Trumpet
Recorder
Melodica
Banjo
Mandolin
Ukelele
I think I’ll start with the harmonica.
I remember taking piano lessons at a young age but due to an over-zealous father? and conflicting practice/cartoon schedules, practicing became a chore and I grew to dislike it immensely. Three and a half years and a hit-and-run one afternoon after lessons later, I put my foot down and that was it for me and the piano. In retrospect I wish I had stuck with it, I was a decent sight-reader, but I didn’t. I suppose it’s never too late, except I don’t have a piano. Hmmm…something else to add to the list?
Later, regretting having given up the piano, I learned to play the bamboo flute (yes like in Chinese kungfu movies), which is all well and good, but rather difficult to sing and play at the same time.
And so I find myself, wanting to play another instrument. Perhaps something stringed this time.
i can already play the piano, but i lost interst and havnt played since the beginning of the summer!!
I felt good when i had interest in it! gives a sense of achievement!!
i just have to figure out what instrument i should try playing now!
im thinkin bout tryin guitar, any ideas??
Actually, if anything I should concentrate on making my flute playing a little more decent but I did want to move onto a string instrument. I was thinking either the fiddle (love that celtic music!) or else electric guitar (also luuurve that spiffing rock music!). Hmmm…
Of course, I don’t have the money to learn either just now, but this is definitely a goal I’m going to pursue. :)
Is actually a lot of fun right now. I’ve learned a little bit and I’m going to march with it next year. Good times.
Most people think they’re a joke when they look back on them. But now that I’m a junior in high school, I think I’d like to at least partially revive my eighth grade goal. However, instead of 5 instruments before I graduate, I’ll settle for three.
