I already do this theoretically, but often I think, “I’ll just get one item, I can carry that,” and then I end up getting too much so I need a bag. I should have a reusable grocery bag with me at all times, no matter what! I’ll know I’m successful when I have needed to get a store bag in 6 months. So I’ll make an entry every time I need a grocery bag, and then we’ll see.

I’d doing better with this. I’ve remembered them the last three shopping trips. And I like the 5cent per bag rebate incentive. I may have to pick up a few more.

    Yay! 8 months ago

I actually remembered to take them with me on the last shopping trip. And everything fit in just 3 bags. It makes it so much easier loading and unloading the car. I bought one more (the pretty green one that Giant sells), and now I think I’m all set. Now I just have to make a habit of it.

I went to the store today, and I TOLD myself to bring the bags. But I forgot them AGAIN. I need to figure out how to remember this.

I almost always use my reusable grocery bags when going to the supermarket now. I’ve used these bags at least 41 times since I originally set this goal. There have been a couple of times that I wasn’t credited 5¢ per bag use but the bags have basically paid for themselves now. One of my bags tore at the seam and I considered purchasing a replacement. Instead I pulled out a needle and thread and repaired it. I could still improve and use these bags when I shop at other places.

I now have two! 14 months ago

I had a coupon for a free one from Giant, so now I have two. I plan to collect them slowly, till I have six or so.

I bought my first one today! At Safeway. I keep forgetting, so today when I went to pick up a few things I made sure to get a bag as well. It’s really roomy. I don’t think I’ll ever need more than four (at least not while it’s just my husband and me). I am proud of myself. I am not really all that gung-ho about this “Save the Planet” stuff, but some things really do make sense, and this is one of them.

I’ve been better at actually using the reusable grocery bags. One of the supermarkets will give you a 5¢ credit for each bag that you bring. I’m going to mark this thing as completed when my bags have paid for themselves.

but it makes a lot of sense. Also I am tired of millions of plastic bags piling up under my kitchen sink. I can’t just throw them away. They must serve at least one other purpose. But I think I’d rather slowly start accumulating the reusable ones. I kind of want them all to be from different stores. :) I’m just silly. Must start on this next grocery shop.

Sometimes I enter the grocery store and I leave these things in the car.
