... for a downpayment (15%), title deed and mortgage deed.
At the price levels where I live, this is very longterm but I hope to reach 40% of my savings goal this year.
I’m not sure I want to buy a house, actually. But I want to have the option. 1 month ago

me and my boyfriend have got a joint account to save for a house, so far we only have about £2500 after one year so we are still a long way off. I am living with my parents and he is renting with his mate, we have talked about renting together but I think renting is a waste of money for me if I can stay with my parents, and then I will have extra money to save, as although I can’t wait to live with him I would rather live with him when we have bought a house instead of paying 300 a month just to rent :\ 7 months ago

We opened a special house downpayment savings account and put all extra money into it—any money in that account had to stay there, no matter what. While we downsized, any money we made by selling stuff was put into the account. When we were tempted to spend money on something, we’d ask ourselves, “do we want this more than we want our house?” and usually the answer was no. 22 months ago
