I’ve been going twice a week lately and it’s been great – I can feel myself gaining momentum from regular attendance. This week I only went once though because it was the first time I’ve sparred in 8 months and I was sore for days afterward. I’d really like to improve my sparring, but that will happen with time. Meantime my forms are getting much better though.

My new habit for March is to go to class regularly. Last week I made it twice – first time that’s happened in awhile. I’m all about trying to be conscious of the little ways I sabotage myself and cover them beforehand – i.e., get my work in a good stopping place, have dinner planned and eaten on time, have a clean uniform ready, etc. Amazing how I’m my own worst enemy sometimes. And why? I love kung fu when I actually go!
Went to class last night. My spear form seriously sucks, but the good news is we’re getting a new class format and schedule that makes it a lot easier to get to class! I’m very excited about the changes and I think it’s going to get me into a great training routine. It starts on 1/28 – yeah, baby.
So last night I was supposed to have my Kung Fu class but I got wrapped up in working on my costume and I am still not done. I am going to take the Saturday class and see how that goes =D I really need to focus more and work harder though and practice more at home.
I think as long as one feels that one can work harder at kung fu, striving towards perfection in a humble manner, then one is on the right track. I need to practice more- been doing it every other day more or less. I have found that I have to be very careful about not injuring myself. I started out years ago with a southern style called Toy Fut Gar. I havent practiced those forms in a long time but it was excellent for fundamentals. Now I practice northern stuff-long fist forms and fundamentals per YMAA- unfortunately on my own because there is no class teaching that where I am but I still enjoy it.
Now that I’m in a new class it’s exciting that there’s so much to learn, but I haven’t been going on a solid regular basis. Last night I went to a special seminar on the Choy Li Fut wooden dummy form, and it was very cool. Whenever I learn something new like this I get inspired, but I have to keep up regular practice so I don’t forget it and backslide into indifference towards my classes. This indifference mostly seems to come from laziness, because immediately after every class I take I’m excited about how fun it was, but I still have to really motivate to get to the next class.
