Getting back into it  — 2 weeks ago

Worth doing!

Recently I bought a nice wood clarinet.

I had not played in years, but a year ago I bought a cheap plastic clarinet. It sat in my storage unit until last month when I decided to play again. I started playing it every day and then I decided to buy a student level wood clarinet.

I love my new clarinet, it’s a blast to play and sounds great. I wrote more about it and posted some photos of it on my blog:

Trying to impress  — 1 year ago

Not worth it!

My dad, who I don’t talk to anymore, wanted me to learn how to play clarinet. I did. And I will tell you honestly, that it was the biggest colossal waste of my time. Not only do I hate my dad even more now, I did not learn a single life lesson from learning to play the clarinet. Maybe mine was just a bad experience but I just don’t want others to go through the same terrible things I did. Try something else. Perhaps a tic tac.

Worth doing!

To everyone who has given up on the clarinet… I think you’re a LOOOOSER!!! I learn how to play it in the 4th grade! and I bought my own clarinet in the 5th grade, $800 well spent. I hardly practiced and when I was in 6th grade, I got into intermediate band, while everyone else was in beginer. So I’m going into 8th grade now, and I’m really good at it. It only took me one year to pick up though. Sure life is to short, why not try learning this while you’re still here. :D

Starting Up Again...  — 1 year ago

Worth doing!

My first semester of college I had band. I didn’t like it. While playing was fun, I didn’t like the director’s style.

That was almost 2 years ago, fall of 2005.

Now, fall of 2007, I’m going to start playing again. For my college’s (Miami University) basketball pep band.

I’m looking foreowrd to it!

The only think I think I should know before hand would be the fight song. I can look that up on the internet.

Not worth it!

I think of the clairinet as the middle child. It’s caught between the loud sax’s, the high flutes, the powerful trumpets, and the unique bassoons and the french horn. To me, all the other instruments have something unique about them, and are distinct, while the clarinet is a combo of everything..and it doesn’t make a loud sound. I’d rather go for something really unique to the intrument…clarinet just doesn’t fit it. That’s why i quit.

Just say NO to the clarinet!  — 2 years ago

There’s just not enough time to do everything worth doing, so sometimes you just have to say no. I’m saying no to the clarinet.

Phew, I feel better already!

Worth doing!

I’ve played the B flat clarinet since 5th grade to 11th grade. Then when I was a senior I switched to a contrabass clarinet and an E flat alto clarinet, depending on which one wasn’t broken at the time! My director wanted me to play the contra but it was always broken, so I played the alto most of the time.

Worth doing!

I played from fifth grade through senior year of high school. Then I had to give it up in college; I sold my clarinet to a cousin—which I regret doing now. Recently, I bought a used clarinet at an estate sale. It needs a couple of pads, but it’s in really great shape. Now all I have to do is buy some reeds. I will definitely play again.
