No time limit,no destination just a free spirit on the road….
How to drive Route 66
How I did it: My sister decided to move to Sarasota, Florida from Central Oregon. She needed moral support, plus someone to help out with her little girl.
We had a handy map, cell phones and an adventurous spirit!!!
Lessons & tips: Take a camera. Take pictures of everything. Be sure to visit everything you can. Drive in the day so you can see everything and be rested.
Resources: A MAP

I came close to driving the mother road two years ago when a was going to take a road trip coast to coast, but because of budget and time constraints, the trip turned into a flight from coast to coast. Still a good time, but not quite the same.

I love to travel, but my financial situation never really gives me the opportunity. I want to take a week (or so) and drive route 66 on my own. Go explore, see some new things… I always feel at my best when I’m away from home
yes on a motorcycle and make sure i stop at all the local diners and such
It’s just something that appeals, hopefully I’ll get chance in the next couple of years.
But… the Wiki says it’s approximately 2500 miles, so if I could average 50mph I’d have to do 10 hours non-stop driving per day to do it in 5 days. If anyone has done this is that achievable? Do you actually get to see anything other than the road (is there anything to see)?
Had the idea once … would love to fly to Chicago with my dad and then rent a car … and then drive the length of the highway and enjoy the time with my father.
