I just wanna win.
How to be a winner at NaNoWriMo
How I did it: Word Wars. :)
Lessons & tips: Don't forget to sleep! Yes. that 50K word count and green winner bar are very alluring, but surviving on only an hour of sleep per night will take it's toll. I now have flu, and feel terrible, but I can't sleep properly because my body clock's out of sync.
Resources: lulu.com - I know it's a shameless plug, but I have my novel published (already) on Lulu, which you can buy now by going here. I already had some stuff available there, bu knowing that I could publish my novel there really spurred me on

mathnerde is planning some writing...
It was a very good experience. Though many of the steps along the way were painful. For me it took discipline, but also the fear of being embarrassed at not finishing. So for my other projects I’ve been telling people about them and putting time constraints on the project. To try to replicate the external pressure.
I didn’t read No Plot No Problem until after I’d finished but it has good advice.
I do intend to try again this year.
It’s always next year!
I did actually manage to start this year. Got to a point where my two main characters ended up in bed together and I didn’t have the ehart to take them out again!
and it feels great !
i’m so proud of myself, perhaps not of the actual results but for having stick it out to the end. I have proven to myself that i can do things if i really put my mind to it.
Roll on next November

This is my 4th year. I won my first 2 years but only did it half-heartedly my 3rd year so I didn’t win the 3rd. I don’t mind. I do it for the experience. :)
The first year really changed my life. Nano contributed to a turning point and the people I’ve met from Nano are amazing. They are nothing short of amazing. I’ve met kindred spirits (which I can never seem to find in real life) and people who truly understand my emotional baggage without me having to explain all the sordid details. They accept me for who I am as I accept them for who they are.
If anything, do it for the experience. Seriously.

Maybe next year will be three’s a charm. I do have demand resistance though. It’s always been a problem for me. I’m torn between perfectionism (It can’t be any other month, it must be 50,000 words, it must be fiction…) or failure and demand resistance which is to say that if there are rules being demanded of me, then I am a rebel all the way. Just thinking about writing pisses me off.
I will work on my demand resistance and see what next year brings.

It’s 12:34am on 11/1/06. I have no real direction but I did start writing. I’m curious to see where it goes.
Wooohoooo!

It’s almost here. I’m a bit nervous. I have yet to work writing into my daily routine although I’m closer than I’ve ever been. I have a comfortable desk and chair. I have a quiet room. I even have time during weekdays when I am all alone. Like right now. Maybe I’m closer than I thought.
I know people plan what they will be writing about but I haven’t even given it a thought. Romantically, I think it will just “come to me” and flow onto the page when the time is write. <— (I accidently did that and I think I’ll leave it!)
The truth is that just sitting down to write generates a lot of material. I used to think I had nothing to say, nothing to write about. Now I’m like the Energizer Bunny.
We’ll see what happens.
And with four days to spare!
“It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time” is certainly not destined for the New York Times’ Bestesller’s list, not in its current state. But, you know what? It’s a hell of a lot easier to edit 130 pages of crap than it is to edit 130 blank pages!
Now, ‘scuse me while I go do my happy dance and play with the cat!
...and a bit past halfway through the word count. As of last night I’ve got 28,471 (out of 50,000) words. There are even a few brilliant words in there, though it’s mostly crap right now.
Hopefully, there won’t be any serious derailments and I’ll make it to the finish line with barely a light sweat!
Starting in December, I can edit this monster beyond all recognition. :-)
