I first tried raw oysters and oysters for that matter, during my trip in Korea (Nov ‘07 – Jan ‘08) at a fancy restaurant with relatives. I found it appetising as I do enjoy most seafood delicacies. Unfortunately, an allergic reaction to the oysters ensued in the following hours; my throat was swollen, I was breathless and coughing nonstop.
Needless to say, I haven’t touched oysters since. I think I’ll play it safe and stick to fish, squid, clams and prawns.
perkyanda mmm, boston.
Augie and I went out last night, and I tried two kinds of oysters. One was sorto f awful, tasting just liek a big gulp of sea water. The other was milder, and tasted ok, but still, nothing special. For the price you pay, I just don’t think its worth it. Sad.
(We had some baked with spinach though, and that was tasty.

I tried raw oysters last year during a Christmas party while I was deployed. Somebody received them in a care package and shared them with the rest of us. It has that crablike aftertaste, but it’s very squishy. You have to eat them with crackers! This may be the last time I eat oysters for a while! LOL
I had a raw oyster for the first time 2 weeks ago. Our friends own a bar and let me try on. I loved it! The next week I had 6 for dinner. I eat them different every time, one on a cracker, on with horseradish, ect. Everybody loves beer with them but a good Bloody Mary with olives is great too!

I love raw oysters. I had my first half dozen yesterday, but I went back today and had a whole dozen all by myself. They are wonderful!!! I love them and will have them again. Thank you Scott’s Oyster Bar! (Oh, and cold beer just makes them better.)
I did it with my best friend at a really great seafood restaurant. She showed me how to slurp the oyster out of the shell. I can’t explain why, because it looks disgusting, it’s slimy and cold, and my sister who works in a biology lab is always talking about their gonads… but it was GOOD! I only ordered one because it was quite expensive and I already had an appetizer and entree. I want to eat an entire dozen, but I’ve since moved away from my seaside city, and I’m terrified of the seafood in any landlocked area.
Update:
I took my boyfriend out for Japanese food here in Alberta… I was a bit terrified (especially since this would be the first time he’d ever had sushi) but it turned out to be fine! And there were raw oysters on the menu… drool! I ordered 6 and even my boyfriend tried them. He loved them too! OMG, I can almost still taste them. I want more. They were delicious. I could go on and on about them!!! I’m definitely addicted, I think. :D
They are really good, but they have to be fresh. For you inlanders, you can never have it as good as those by the sea. I live in the san francisco bay area 5 minutes away from the ocean in California. I have only had oysters on the same day they were caught. If they aren’t fresh they are disgusting and smell unpleasant. (I had a bad Red Lobster experience once.)
Overall they are a tad slimy for most people, but it is part of the experience.Make sure you use your assets: tabasco sauce, lemon, cocktail sauce horseradish, etc…
Goes great with a nice cold beer. Eat up!
i ate raw oysters. Personally, I thought they were slimy, cold and smelled bad. Then again.. it was in Kentucky.
