I ran my schools house cross country because I had to. I was the only one in my year from my house available to do it. I came 23rd out of 38. It may not sound so good but I was running against the most sporty girls in my school. I was proud and really enjoyed it. I want to be able to run it with some ease.
There are a few reasons i run XC
1. The anticipation before the gun goes off. hundreds sometimes thousands off people silently wating across a single line for the simple shot of the gun. Knowing that just about everybody is anxiously waiting to get off the line.
2. Running is the most punishing sport there is. The pain endured within the 3.1 miles is increadible. It is a carnival of pain, but i love each stride because running distills me to essence and the heat hastens this distillation.
3.The final streatch. The adrenalin rush that overcomes one when sprinting down the final straight. the crowd lined up for hundreds of meters the point when i am out of gas but i endure the pain and the adrenaline takes over my body and makes me go numb the kick is deffinatly the most exciting part of the race for both the runner and the spectator.
pretty much the most amazing thing i’ve ever done. greatest sport EVER. wow. i cant even explain it. the greastest feeling ever is finishing a race and knowing you did your best.
plus the busrides and spaghetti feeds with the team are crazy fun. :)
and you get in REALLY good shape.
i am running cross country now, i’m a freshman living in alaska, and me and my teem (8 girlz) are going to nike teem nationals, and at 1st i was very VERY afraid to run, i am 5’2 and only weigh 89 pounds (i’m athabaskan, and my mom’s shorter than me :) but the peorple going for the teem to, were phenominonly tall, and i was a little shy frosh, but i tried, and won a couple races, and got top eight on my teem, and now i run next week, what really makes you strong is your environment, we run outside in -20 weather, and it makes us strong, no 1 give up, or you’ll never really live!
i’ve done cross country all 4 years in high school. i’ll never forget the very first day i ran with the team i immediately wanted to give up. one of the best decisions i’ve ever made in those 4 hard years was staying in x-country. it has a world of lessons to teach :D
I ran cross country in high school and I must say that the values instilled in me within the sport have carried me through until now and into the future I’m sure. I still exercise regularly and keep in shape. Mostly, cross country is NOT a team sport. It requires that you are broken at some point and you must find it within yourself to go on. No one else will do it for you, you must decide to make it so. If you run cross country you will find that it allows a lot of time for introspection which I have found to be key in success. Good luck and God bless!
