    week 2 (500yds) 10 months ago

    Today marks the beginning of my second week of swimming and the day I swam 500 yards. Swimming is really a push, but one worth doing. I still feel like I’m getting better every time I jump in and I’m still having fun. This week I’ll try to work on swimming more non-stop, improving my form, and increasing my distance to at least 600 yards. Wish me luck!

    My first weekend. 10 months ago

    I went to the pool on Saturday, but just relaxed. I still swam laps, but because I had more than 30 minutes, I took my time and tried to improve my form. The pool is closed today, but I’m still going to go to the gym and work out a little, so that I don’t feel like I’m starting over on Monday. Swimming is fun and great exercise; in the week’s time I’ve already started to notice a deference in my appearance.

    Day 4 (475yds!) 10 months ago

    Wow, I can hardly believe the success I’ve been having with this goal. Today was my 4th day swimming and not only did I increase the number of yards to 475, but I kicked it off with swimming 100 yards non-stop! I realize at some point I’m going to plateau, but until then I’m feel like I’m making major improvements daily. Every time I jump in the pool, I’m learning to push my self harder than the day before. I’m really proud of the progress I’ve been making and really enjoying every minute of my swimming routine. It is a great way to start the day and wonderful exercise.

    Day 3 (350yds) 10 months ago

    My 3rd morning in a row and it keeps getting better and better. I hit the pool swimming and really increased my distance. In total, I’m swam 350 yards this morning in 30 minutes, and I think tomorrow will be even better. I’m getting better at pushing myself and improving my form, and it is really paying off. I love swimming and I’m looking forward to being able to swim this distance non-stop.

    Day 2 (200yds) 10 months ago

    I went to the pool this morning, though it felt like everything was trying to keep me from getting there. First I couldn’t find the keys, then I couldn’t find my wallet, then I had to get gas, but hey, I found everything and make it to the pool with a second to spare. Since I was just “testing the water” yesterday, today I actually tried to keep track of how far I swim during my 30 minutes. I sort of lost count, but I think I swam around 200-250 yds, which isn’t bad for only my second day. Anyway, I’m a little sore now, but aside from a few other trials I had after my swim, this morning has been really good and I can’t wait to get back into the pool tomorrow.

    the swim begins 10 months ago

    I woke up this morning at 6:00 am and headed to the pool, swam for half an hour and headed to work. It was great! Very refreshing/energizing and a great way to start the morning. My plans are to be able to keep up (at the very least) this routine during the week. I think tomorrow I’ll actually figure out how far I’m swimming and work on improving the distance. Also, I shared a lane with a really cool older fellow named Andy, who’d been swimming for years. We talked a little, but mostly just swam. He encouraged me and said that it was the best exercise you could do. I felt really good afterwards and can’t wait to go back.

    Starting in January 11 months ago

    I plan to swim almost every day before work, when school starts back up and I get access to the pool. Already, I’m getting myself used to waking up at 6:00am, and by January it should be a piece of cake. I’m setting up some “swim goals” for me to achieve once I get started. These include: 1) spend 30 minutes in the pool almost everyday, 2) swim 300 meters non-stop, 3) learn & practice new strokes, 4) swim 600 meters non-stop. Once I can reach these goals I’ll work out new ones to keep it going. I’m really excited about this and think it’ll be great training.

    ::sigh:: 2 years ago

    I swam competitively in high school, and still love swimming. I talk about it to people, and I moved to a place with a public pool down the street. If money warrants, I want a membership to the Y this winter but by this time next year I definately want to be going at least three times a week. I could definately use those pilates to get ready for it.

    ok, well not every day, but three times a week or so, interspersed with running on the other days. i would swim more but my skin starts getting too dried out from the chlorine….

    ymca=love 3 years ago

    ok, so it’s winter and i had given up on this goal until summer, but now it’s clear to me that joining the ymca is financially and geographically feasible and they have a pool with lap swimming hours in the afternoon. i doubt i will manage to do it every single day, but maybe 3 times a week. i swam laps for 1/2 hour at the cheshire pool the other night and it transformed my depressed mood. i just have to get off the nocturnal schedule to make sure i actually take full advantage of the ymca. i think i will join when i get back from sundance.
