~ John Lee ~ setting my sights lower so I can set them higher

Writing 3 years ago

Last year I wrote letters to the editor on a daily basis to the major national papers as well as the smaller papers in San Diego. I was amazed at how many were published. Public Television even invited me to do a commentary on their nightly news program. WOW. Me on KPBS talking about racism, classism, and the problems facing America. I never imagined as I watched the TV when the storm first hit that I would be given the power to speak to so many people. I am grateful that I was able to turn my disgust into something positive.

I doubt anyone from the Gulf Area was evacuated to San Diego when that aired, but somehow I think they know someone cared.

Love of a Different Kind 3 years ago

The whole Katrina event reminded me of how much work we as the remaining Super Power have to do.

The racism, the classism, the elitism; all the bruises and stains of our history came to light during that dark period in our history.

I love the Bible passage about a speck in someone else’s eye while missing the blank in our own. Self examination is painful, it really hurts. But it helps us find the injuries and damage that can kill us. Those dark days have led me to pray for my country regularly. Perhaps the blank that is Katrina will result in a some much needed change, and a whole lot of Love for others.
