Hopefully within 6 months, I’m already not too bad at it but there is much need and room for improvement.

Goal achieved 2 years ago

I’ve made big changes, so I think my goal has been achieved!
Here are things I’m doing:

- Using cloth diapers on my baby. I also bought cloth wipes, so I’m going to phase them in soon to minimize disposable wipes (although I will use those a little while traveling or out).

- Turn off lights, computers, ceiling fans in my home when I’m not in the room. Routinely setting the thermostat to 78 degrees during the day in the heat of the summer.

- I recycle carboard boxes, aluminum tins and cans, catalogs, magazines, newspapers and all plastics. I don’t throw anything away that can be recycled.

- Using non-toxic household products, including laundry detergent. Mostly Seventh Generation, Method and Simple Green items.

- We use recycled toilet paper, paper towels and napkins on a regular basis.

- I’m going to start replacing all bulbs with compact flourescents.

- I’m looking into getting a clothes line to start air drying loads outside. Right now I only wash and dry full loads to conserve energy.

- Our house is recieving some renewalable energy from the electric company. It costs a little more, but worth it in the end!

1. Walk if I can.
2. Take the bus instead of the auto.
3. The train instead of the plane.
4. Use fewer plastic bags and recycle the ones I have.
5. Help family do the same too.
6. Carry cloth bag for own purchases.
7. Limit consumption of things with so much plastic, either as packaging, or in their production.
8. But what about all the sanitary pads? They’re really indestructible.

The recycle bin 2 years ago

was almost full last collection day and the rubbish bin was only about a quarter full (admittedly the rubbish bin gets emptied twice as much) but that was awesome progress it used to be the other way round. I will be very pleased if I can keep that up and start composting more.

getting there slowly 2 years ago

I noticed today that the recycle bin is more full as it gets close to recycling day than it used to be, so I am making some progress but I’m sure that I could do more.

I have been spending time 2 years ago

looking after my yard. We now have 2 big piles of mulch to help with the water saving in the garden. It just has to get spread out.
