Spent two hours yesterday debating the morality and desirability of Economic Sanctions… no idea who won, but at least I have some ideas for the cases I have to write this week.
People doing this are also doing these things:

after losing everyone last year, I have to win one this year
yeah, that title. thats probably what most people would think when confronted by the idea of debating. but really, its alot of fun and boosts your skills in public speaking and more importantly, winning arguments! its extremely helpful when trying to convince mum to let you go to that huge party… so give it a try, and who knows? you might not end up being so geeky after all. ;-)
I’m distressed about this whole debate thing. I don’t know if it’s my fear of public speaking, maybe I’m not intelligent enough, worrying about what others think of me, or my anxiety. I need some advice. I need people to push me forward. My debate team competes against Ivy league schools. People who get involved in the debate team, are they usually english, and political science majors? I’m only a music major for now. Do I belong on a debate team? Help!!! I don’t want to make a fool of myself. What freaks me out is that they put a quote in front of you, and giving you 10 seconds to think, you have to come up with 3 strong arguments. It’s like writing a persuasive essay in only 5 minutes. I don’t know what to do.
I have State coming up soon and I really would like to continue on to nationals.
Entering freshmen, look up the American Parliamentary Debate Association. Its not nearly as stodgy as debate in high school, nor as dull as collegiate Mock Trial, Policy or NPDA.
