get a Jack Russell Terrier

My boyfriend got me a jack russell for a Christmas present a couple of years ago and our lives have been forever changed. He is a huge part of our family and just the most loving, spunky, loyal friend you can ask for. Mine is asleep on the bed next to me as I type this. If you have the time and lots of love to give, you should really do this. Good luck!

If you want to be taken on a rollercoaster ride, get a Jack Russell. They are very loyal dogs and make great companions that follow you everywhere. They need lots of training and exercise. You need to be the leader of the pack ALWAYS. Do this and you and your Jack Russell Terrier will get along famously.

I just got my Jack over the summer. He’s a beautiful 3 year old named Mick. He likes to chew things still, but he’s a sweet little dog. ^_

I have a little Jack named Penny. I have had he since she was six weeks old.

she is about 15 months now.

I love her more than anything she is the sweetest little dog. Raising her was tough, I got more than I bargained for but sticking it out was so worth it.

I read the OCD post below and Penny loves to play tug-o-war and fetch the toy until she falls over which I have never even reached that point because I get so sick of playing with her that I don’t even think this dog has limit!!

But she really is such lovable dog, and so incredibly smart. I love seeing how smart she can be it is really heartwarming.

Jack Russells have more OCD than any other breed. I swear. One of my Jacks, (I have two) Smidgen, will litterally play ball or tug until she falls over from exhaustion. She NEVER gets bored with it.

My other Jack, Penny, is OCD about chasing and hunting. She recently spent 2 hours barking and circling a tree, because the neighbor’s cat was up in it, mocking her. She only stopped because I went out and carried her back into the house.

Getting a jack russell is a wise descion! But JRT’s are NOT for some people (ie. people who work 9-5 jobs, have small yards, or live in an apartment) they DO have alot of energy but things that can help with that are:Feeding your JRT treats that contain no added sugar, feeding them low protien foods, taking them for a walk or two a day, ( My JRT LOVES going to a field down the road from me, places like this are ideal for them, because theres plenty of sniffs! Just be carefull not to let them off the leash unless they are WELL trained to come back. Local dog parks can be fun to, except jack russells tend to think there bigger than they are and can get into fights with bigger dogs, so be carefull!)
Jack russells are said to live for 15-19 years…I have a friend who’s JRT is still alive at 21, so be prepared to take on a friend for a long time! If you can no longer care for your jack russell, please dont take it to the pound, contact Jack russell rescue, they will be more than happy to take your JRT and will place it in a loving home! I would never give up my jack russell and my best friend loved my dog so much i bought her her very own jack russell. My pops business friend loved our dog so much he got one too. I love my pup more than anything!

This just isn’t going to happen…

Jacks are awesome dogs, for the right people! They are high energy and mischevious. They are tenatious to no end but so much fun. If you have a the room and then energy, they are defintely awesome dogs. Despite their small size, they are so NOT apartment dogs. They need lots of excersise and things to do or they will develop bad habits out of their boredom. I got mine before I knew this, and I live in an apartment with him now. We are getting a house with a yard very soon though. Thank goodness, because he’s driving me bonkers! :)

Wiggs aka Ticket (don’t know why) came from my uncle and we adopted her when he went travelling. She fitted into our family so nicely, and I would like another jack russell when I’m in a better situation to have one. They’re lovely dogs.
