"You learn more as a mentor than as a mentee sometimes!"
How I did it: This was just one of those things that I thought would be proof of my maturity and wisdom. I was pretty naive at first about the whole thing, because I just wanted to feel like I had some kind of purpose and role in others' lives in showing them more things about the Lord. Lucky for me, one of my best friends in my campus ministry -- who happens to disciple me once a week -- approached me and asked if I was interested in co-leading a bible study for freshman girls on campus. It's been amazing so far. I am excited to see them befriend one another when they were strangers just a month ago, and they are becoming more and more comfortable with sharing more intimate things about their lives and hearts. Their insight and ideas on things are awesome! I'm learning a lot of things that I hadn't considered before through them, and we have the whole rest of this school year to see more fruit. I'm glad that God humbled me through this experience already. This is something that I get excited about every week and absolutely love preparing for and conducting.
Lessons & tips: Something that really made our group close and comfy was setting up "lady dates," where every week, each person hangs out with someone new for a little while. Even if it's just coffee, working out, or walking to class, it's the chance to get to know someone you don't really know very well yet. It's the only "assignment" that we have, and I think it's been fabulous!
Resources: UCF's Campus Crusade materials are what we're using right now (our schools are friends, it's ok!), and they're pretty great. They've opened my eyes to a lot of things.
