I am serving in the PHILIPPINES MANILA Mission!
I’ll be entering Provo UTAH MTC 01 September 2009
How I did it: Had it as a goal all growing up. Just knew that it was something that I wanted/needed to do. I had a family that was supportive too. My Bishop helped me get started ... saved some money and that was about it to get started.
Lessons & tips: The temptations will grow as you get closer to the day that you serve. Make sure that you stay close to the Lord and pray daily ... you'll never need it more than as you get ready to go. Be sure to make sure you have a testimony as well ... or at least be working on it.

I GOT MY CALL TODAY!!!!! I’ll be opening it later on and so I’ll brush back here for an update, but jsyk, I’ve got the gorgeous white envelope. :)
seph is stoked!
but I have already submitted my papers first week of May…YEYAH! So now I am patiently waiting for my call, which will arrive around end of June to early July. I’m freakin stoked!
So now whilst I await, I’m meeting with the missionaries every week (as they have dinner in our place every Monday) for mission prep classes, and next week I will need to teach them the Plan of Salvation. Ark. Two years ago, I was just being taught this by the elder who baptised me and his comp, now I have to do the same.

SO I thought I would update y’all on the progress I’ve made: I have finished up the papers except for one part. The DOCTOR! I still have to go have a million shots and stuff. Not looking forward to that, BUT I’m excited because I’m almost done! :)

OKAY I AM SORRY I HAVE THOUGHT OF GETTING BACK TO THIS A MILLION TIMES BUT I AM FINALLY GETTING TO IT!!! Sorry for the shouting, I felt really bad.
Well, I know it might sound really obvious, but you really need to know Preach My Gospel. Of course there will be time to learn it in the MTC but I can promise you will be much more effective if you study before you leave and you will also have the Spirit with you. That book contains the words of living (and ancient) prophets and is well worth the time you take to study.
Also, read the Book of Mormon. I just finished it and am almost back to 2 Nephi. It’s a true book and it will help you so well.
Another primary answer is PRAYER! Pray like crazy. Morning and evening (and like Alma says, at noon wouldn’t hurt either) Get to know your Heavenly Father on a very personal level and know that He loves and cares about you. Gain a testimony that He not only loves you, but that He loves ALL His children in all their troubling circumstances. You can do this by consistent prayers filled with pleas for the health, safety, and spiritual well-being of others, and other prayers containing purely gratitude (à la Elder Bednar’s conference address last October “Pray Always”).
The last thing I suggest is to work on your people skills. Talk to strangers, willingly and cheerfully accept the call to speak in church if it comes. Seek out opportunities to share the gospel, go on splits with the missionaries in your area. You should start to feel comfortable talking to people you have never met, because that is precisely what you are doing on a mission. Another way to do this is to search for and work to have a very personal and sacred relationship with Jesus Christ. He is our Savior and He is the reason why this Church exists: to bring forth the true and everlasting gospel. We take his name upon us when we are baptized, it is true, but when we choose to serve a mission, we are not only taking His name, but taking His place, preaching the light and truth that we have to all the nations!
What a glorious work. :) Shall we not go on in so great a cause? (D&C 128:22) God be with you, sister! I’m glad you have chosen to serve the Lord. You will touch the hearts of many children of God.
Ok so I am a 20 year old Female that plans to serve a mission soon!!! I need to know what you guys would suggest I do to better perpare myself for it…. Like something that I need to study that you didn’t or something that you feel you got asked a lot about…Things like that!
Thanks of helping me!

I am eligible to turn my papers in this April (possibly) and that is WONDERFUL! I thought it was going to be postponed until June but my Bishop told me as soon as I get the Melchizedek Priesthood I can start working on my papers. Yippee!

Cheers my good bro PSMITHUT! I’m glad we share the same goal. Let me know when you are planning to submit your papers.
Well I am still working on my papers. Reckon I’ll be a tad delayed with my submission as I haven’t even cranked up all those medical and dental whatnots. I didn’t know wisdom tooth extraction costed THAT much! haha. But I might get that free from work so I’ll figure that out this week. But those two will be huge and will leave me skint in no time :)
But other than those, I am also preparing in other aspects. Still reading my scriptures, still going out with the missionaries to teach, still doing my monthly church talks (which will hopefully end soon yeyah!). My mum’s not that excited with the thought of me leaving, but she supports me nevertheless. Hope everything will work out well.

I’m here posting now, just joined. Way to go man on your decision to serve. Best decision you will EVER make because it will make your temple marriage even more satisfying and rewarding than you ever thought possible. Best wishes and congratulations. :) Right on.
