~this excellent goal gives me the opportunity to reminisce about seeing Reverend Awdry once at some sort of church hall type thing - could it have been a train set exhibition? - somewhere in the stroud area (rodborough?) probably 25ish years ago. i’ll have to ask my dad quite what it was. but we were there are we saw him! also saw laurie lee once in the pub at slad. all these stroudie writers… ~

Here’s a picture of him looking especially intelligent in Anji’s glasses. He’s had what you might call an eventful first year after a nasty accident that was a very close call. But he’s recovered like a trooper, as has Anji He’s one day older than my excellent nephew, JD, and I know that if they lived nearer each other they would be best mates.
His birthday is on September 6th, but I’m already raising my Thomas the Tank Engine glass to Orion, the brave.
