I’m selling my 49er. It’s not worth the heartache anymore. I never have time to work on it, and when I do it brings back the floodgate of memories. It’s too much. Maybe in the future.

    Anyone want it? $4000/obo

Where to start 3 years ago

Bodywork. Interior. Crashpad. Seat foams and covers. All the weatherstripping. Replace the emissions lines my Dad removed. Brake lines. Rebuild the transmission. Put the new clutch slave cylinder in. Insurance and plates. New tires.

sigh. Time to make a real list with priorities.

1949 Chevy Pickup 4 years ago

In high school, I drove by a beautiful, running, original ‘54 GMC pickup and one day I saw it was for sale. I jumped on it! I really wanted it, but of course I had to ask my parents to get it. They balked and balked, then finally said yes. The day we went to go purchase it after school, I sat in a parking lot facing the street waiting for her to meet me. That’s when I saw it drive by with it’s new owner inside. I was crushed.
So as years went by, I searched and searched for my new love. At the GoodGuys’ Car Show, I found Her. A blue ‘49 pickup for $4k. It was running, in decent shape, and for sale. I jumped on the chance, not letting this one slip away from me. We got it, and gradually moved it back up to my parents house. And there it sits, waiting for me to give it attention. It is completely broken apart waiting for restoration.
    My goals on it:

    Remove all Rust
    Shave the Door handles
    Upgrade Engine, Transmission, Rear End
Upgrade to Power Brakes, Steering and Spring Suspension
    Install Hard-Oak Bed
    Get New Rims
    Chrome and Paint

Such a short list, but that’s thousands of dollars and many years of work. Especially as frequently as I am able to get to it. I work too much and live too far away. But someday, I swear!

Something from the sixties and from Detroit 4 years ago

Like an Impala or a Caddy or a Ford Galaxie. It would be cool to give it a nice paint job and a really nice interior with some modern audio equipment. I would just use it as a nice cruising car for Sunday drives.

It would be almost as much about the learning experience and accomplishment of doing it as it would be about the finished product. Oh and it might be worth converting it to propane to make it a little more environmentally friendly.
