contradictatoryw00t!
I haven’t gone a 1:27 in my 100 breaststroke since the last meet of freshman year (and boy was that a good race!) Anyway, the last two years I’ve been trying to break it, and a few times this season I went 1:27, so it may have been a new best time, but i don’t think it counts if you don’t beat it by a full second.
Well this weekend was the Racine invite which is the most fun meet of the season. You eat too much, laugh too much, and consequently don’t do too well. Well this year I passed on the steak for breakfast (it’s a weird tradition that started freshman year), although I did devour a delishious (sp?!) Oreo Shake, and then a ton of nachos and a decadant waffle. But anyway my first of two races was the 50 free and I have been going 35 in that forever. Finally I got it down to a 34 once, but you know. Then the last meet we had I managed to bring it down to a 33. Well I was so pumped that I REALLY wanted to bring it down to a 32. When I got up on the blocks it was relatively quite but I could hear my mom yelling for me and making a fool of herself. (You know, it happens) The second I dove off the blocks though my goggles fell off and I was pretty much eating them. Still I swam it and got a 33! I know I could have gone a 32 if my goggles were on, I know it! Well I hope so. It was a really good race though.
Then my breaststroke! Last year I was seated the very last for my breaststroke at Racine but this year I actually made it in the second heat (seated 5th, but you know). Anyway my goal was to go a 1:26, like I had to do it. Well I was talking with the girls in my heat and wished them good luck and we were all pumped. The girl next to me was seated at a 1:25, so I told her I was going to keep in pace with her. Well. I’m on the blocks, they blow the horn, I sprint off and going into the first turn I already see that she’s not ahead of me! My goggles were fine, everything was fine. So I keep swimming and by the 3rd length I still couldn’t see anyone ahead of me. So I’m so confident that all I’m thinking in the last half lenth is to just remember to two hand touch. Normally by that point my legs are dying, but not this time. I slam into the pad and then jump out and get my time from the timer. 1:25:06!!!!!!!!!! First in my heat!!!!!!!! I was so excited I hugged the timer and hugged the girl next to me! It was awesome!!! :) It was my final meet of the year too, so I definitely went out in style! :) 5 years ago
