I donated two bags of books to my local library today. So good to get rid of some books I have had for nearly 3 years and either never read or never intended to read.
This feels SO good! :)

How I did it: During the process, my room looked like a tornado hit it. The first thing I did was organize what I wanted to keep and the things I knew I wanted to get rid of I put in separate boxes. There was also the "I'm not so sure" pile. Now that was tough. It was things that had memories, but I knew I would more than likely never use. In the end I pushed myself to just let go of those items. I got rid of my television and the stand it was on.… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I needed to move to NC from CO, so I had to discard quite a bit. I left my bed, a microwave, and a lot of various other home items at the apartment I'd be living in, then I went and visited friends (two carloads) in a bigger town to organize where I could also give things away. I gave away a few boxes of clothing and books, and a friend is working on selling some of my old outdoor gear (we worked up a trade, he sells it and he gets a cut)… Read how I did it…
How I did it: It was a process. Giving away thousands of books didn't happen all at once. But now I go to the library more. And all my clothes fit. And I am still good about it, always mailing extra stuff as gifts to friends. And I am free to move easily if need be. Read how I did it…

How I did it: It's been a long time coming. I've moved multiple times in the last year +/- and have tried to purge each time. My next move is a much bigger one and I've decided to really purge. 4 garage sales in the last year and I can say with confidence that I've finally rid myself of all unnecessary items! I'd love it if I had even less, but what is necessary is... Read how I did it…

Currently there are three bags filling: Clothes in decent condition, Books, and household items for Goodwill.
Other stuff is being trashed or kept.

T’is the season for catalogs. Often I skim through and cut out pictures of things I really like, or even scenes that make me feel good to view. This year I am much more ruthless, and I’ve thrown away pictures I cut out because it is ridiculous to keep them for lusting after. I can’t have the stuff and I don’t want to bring in more stress to my life. I am keeping pictures of things I know I can make in the future, after the big D is done. I actually tossed out 2 catalogs without looking at them! Yay for me. Tossed out = recycled.
Wow, this one is a challenge. I have made a lot of progress by cleaning out old items from each and every room. I had a garage sale over the summer and took the rest to Goodwill. Once it is all cleared away, I will be able to shampoo the high traffice areas of the carpet (at least) to really bring in that final touch. I have even made much progress on cleaning out my old files and now only have a couple of drawers left of filing to clean out! Whew, it has taken about four months so far.

I took my 10yr old computer to the recycling centre yesterday. OMG! What a relief to get rid of it!
I went through my clothes and bric-a-brac and filled 6 bags with unwanted junk. I am going to donate them to a charity centre next week. I have two bags of books which I am going to give to my local library.

Last weekend I decluttered:
1 pair sneakers
3 shirts
2 books
1 towel
1 cashmere sweater
1 tencel jacket
1 merino wool skirt
Yay! I want to declutter 10 things this weekend.

Feels great and goes towards my other goal of getting out of debt, so all this will come off my credit card!!! ;-)

Last week I almost lost my wallet, leaving it at the laundromat. Luckily the owner found it and I got it back the next day. Phew! But I decided not to use my wallet to hold the quarters I need to wash. I dug in my junque drawer and found a very small Eagle Creek crossbody bag that’s just big enough to hold my car keys, cell phone and $20 in quarters. I used it yesterday, and it was great. So, something I saved that I liked (but did not use) for a just in case time in the future actually is being used. Does this reinforce my cluttering behavior? I don’t think so. First, it was in the junque drawer. I allow myself that drawer to put whatever I want in there and I don’t need to throw anything out unless I want to do so. Also last week I went through that drawer and decluttered a number of things, which allowed me to rediscover the bag. Anyway, it’s being used now and I didn’t have to pay for it (again) because I just went shopping in the junque drawer.

One of the hardest things for me to do is part with any book. Yesterday I took out about 30 books and put them on my bookshelf on PBS and about 10 of them got requested within a few minutes. Maybe not a big thing in itself but a huge change for me. I have started going through my 4000+ books to see what I truly want to keep and what I can live without.
