Heather Rose is creating lists and accomplishing tasks like mad.
How I did it: I had a friend doing mission work in Seoul. When she had gotten settled in with her job and roomates she invited me to visit. My husband didn't want me to go, but I wasn't going to let him stop me. I have always wanted to travel. At times I let him almost talk me out of it. North Korea was incredibly scary at the time and South Korea just didn't seem far enough away, but I went and it was wonderful. Read how I did it…

Wowsers, it seems like I’ve been planning this trip forever! The stooopid travel people FINALLY sent me an e-ticket but have cut my trip short, because all the flights are full, even though I initially emailed them a good 6 months ago to book it. I was pissed off at first, cos it means less time with the boy, but then I thought it’s a free trip, I’m going to Korea, I’ll stop whinging.
I’ve been feeling a bit apprehensive about travelling alone too, but I’m reading this book about an english woman who travelled round South Korea for three months and now I feel like a woman power superhero HUZZAH! It’s going to be great. I’ve joined a couple of networks in Seoul, one of them is an English Korean language exchange who meet every weekend in the evening so that’s up there on my agenda. The other is an artists network who meet on Saturday nights, so that’s pretty much my first weekend covered and I’ll no doubt meet loads of other people on the way.
I had a big itinerary planned but I’m going to relax that seeing as I have less time now. I’m quite pleased about this because I’d much rather spend more time in one place learning, doing enjoying it more, than cramming in a load of places just because I want to say I’ve been there. I remember in India I can’t remember half the places we’d seen because we were on the move so much, I think it’s far more important to be a dweller… or maybe I’m just lazy.
The other thing I thought was how this trip could feed into my art or writing. It probably will influence me much more than I envisage. My old art tutor keeps telling me I should document it, do something with it, but I always thought it was a seperate matter. At the end of the day though, creativity is all about ourselves really so whether it’s concious or not, it will seep through whatever I do after the trip. I am however hoping it will open up lots of possibilities for projects, I’m a bit stuck as to what to do. I once read about an artist who went to Italy and refused to come back to England until she’d completed 500 decent drawings. I quite like that idea.
Well tonight I get to complete the excitingly exciting task of making a sleep sheet out of a bedsheet and I might write a list. Goodo!
Okay so far I’m taking the first step in achieving this goal. (Thanks to my cousin)
- I’ve started the process of renewing my passport.
- With the help of my cousin…we’ve found a nice promo package for a trip to Seoul.
- Got myself a new job which hopefully will enable me to save up for this event.
- Asked my mom if she’ll help me with this goal just in case my savings don’t reach the target amount hehe.
Target date to travel: March 2010
GOOD LUCK!

It’s less than 6 weeks until I am on a flight to Korea Yipppeeee! I have so much to do though.
Get injections – I think I only need one though so that’s okay. I’ll book an appointment on Monday
Buy Travel Insurance – Endsleigh seem to be the cheapest
Book travel to London – I’m going to fly down as it’s cheaper than getting the train. It’s so annoying though, there is one flight that arrives 6 hours before my connecting flight and one flight that arrives 2 hours before. It wuld be silly to get the later flight and I’ll be able to catch up on my reading.
Buy travel toiletries, insect repellant, sun cream etcEmail travel agent to find out if I have a seat coming back
Money belt
travel hairdryer
travel towel
Universal plug for my battery charger so I can use my Camera
Travellers Cheques
Make sure there’s spare credit on my credit card for emergencies etc
Books
I’ve been dreaming to go to Korea and take a tour… I’m a fan of all things Korean (movies, music, fashion, food) and so far I’m still trying to save enough money to be able to go there.
i really want to go to korea badly because it’s really beautiful. i’ve been watching a lot of korean soap and they are showing a lot of beautiful places and people..
I’ve recently become obsessed with the Korean culture and the language. I want nothing more than to visit! I’ll try my best to save up and travel there!!
Went TDY with my Guard unit both times. Intersting place and the peaple are just wonderful. very friendly
I went to visit some friends of mine, and they showed me a wonderful time in Seoul and other cities.
The bulk of my roommates have been Korean. Want to visit purely for curiousity’s sake.
