Normally I like riding my bike in the rain but I must say that yesterday I had pretty unpleasant experience with that. It was raining incredibly heavily and I got wet and dirty like little bunny left in the rain. It was really wet and my foot slipped off the pedal and I cut my foot somewhere and it started bleeding (now I’ve got one crimson sock) and I almost lost my shoe.
So because of yesterday I prefer riding in the soft rain.

I rode my bike in the rain this morning. Exhilarating!
I probably did this as a kid. But I don’t remember doing this as an adult. I used the rain as an excuse not to ride my bike. But as the Scandinavians have known for ages, there is no such thing as bad weather—just inappropriate clothing.
Last year I got a jacket to wear on rainy days of my BAK trip. However, I ended up not needing it.
The jacket passed the test drive this morning!
This is something you’ve got to try out for yourself… it’s the most liberating feeling! And while you’re at it, speed through that huge ass puddle. =)
nausicaalady has strange daydreams these days.
My best advice is to wear a hat with a bill under your helmet to keep the rain from dripping into your eyes. Glasses seem like a good idea, but they get covered with water and then you really can’t see the road very well.
I have refused to cancel my rides this winter when it is raining. Lots of cold miles…....
This goal is probably more fun in the summer.
Two days of riding in the mid-60’s and today it topped out at 40F with a 25 mph north wind. I kept up with the group until about mile 34 and then I hit the wall. I was freezing, I got dropped and then it began to rain. Now I’m alone, cold, wet and starting to shiver…. What a ride! Big bonk!
I rode in the rain for a little over 20 cold miles. I’m still cold!
Who needs fenders? I know, fenders made the bike “utilitarian”. I can’t stand the way they look and when I ride with fenders….. Well, I obsess about the aerodynamic drag.
I’ll take the Belgian Toothpaste.
The ride started in the rain and it felt good. Zipping along feeling the stripe of wet road-grime painting up my back, I was loving the ride. I was one with my bike, UNTIL about mile 15.
The wind shifted from the north and the temperature dropped in a very dramatic fashion. Rain turned to ice and my “Zen Ride” turned into a hypothermic nightmare. It sucked! The last 22 miles of the ride were in freezing rain and iced-over roads. Ride in the rain, yes! Ride in an ice storm, no!
perhaps the fact that it was dark, in San Francisco and during the holiday shopping season, didn’t help much. A driver literally veered into me forcing me into the tram tracks. Obviously I tried to stop, but in the tracks and rain it was impossible except by flying over the handle bars…...never again.
