working in an office... 2 years ago

it´s not the best situation, but if it is a good office thing are better, i like my office, even if slowly it´s turning into a “soup opera” ... maybe i will get a book out of it and then another goal will be completed… it´s all about being positive….

I write software for a living. Good job, I enjoy it, I’m good at it. Unfortunately it requires me to be in an office with other geeks like myself. Lets just say I’m not a fan of people. They bore me, they drone on about their pitiful lives and shallow opinions, they slurp coffee, they whine, they act important, they generally annoy the crap out of me. I would say I have 20% hit rate with people, 1 out of every 5 people I can put up with and can have social interchange with them and actually enjoy it at times. However it’s the other 80% that are usually overhead at every company and exist to help contribute to the decay in office morale and give corporate life a really bad name. For 2 years I actually got to work from my home, telecommuted in. That was complete bliss, I never worked so hard, was never so happy with my job in my life. I was in the zone then. Since then it’s a constant battle to walk in and see the same drones every morning discussing whatever game was on tv last night, what their baby burped up, how bad the traffic was or how it’s suppose to rain this weekend. I think I would do well working a 2nd or 3rd shift, less people to deal with. I need a career where I don’t have to wear a badge to get in a building, never have to book a meeting room, spend money on a vending machine or be stuck with the same humans every day in the same four walls.
