I have wanted to do this ever since I was a small child and read A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court for the first time. I was planning on going to Easter Island for next summer’s total solar eclipse, but I am going to London next summer, so I may have to wait and go to Australia in 2012, but I definitely intend to do this one.

How I did it: well, i was in school and a solar eclipse was happening , all i had to do was go up and use the equipment to see it . seeing something as big as this is just majestic , although some people consider it stupid ... its simply eye opening. and i dont want to be too spiritual, but something like this teaches you how something very small can distract you and hide the truth. I can get there pretty easily, but wonder if the crowds will annoy me too much to make it fun… hmmmmm
russellviii Getting ready for the summer's last vacation
On this date a total solar eclipse will transit North America. The area of totality is just a couple hundred miles from my home.
Can you guess where I’m going to be on this date?
I am so there!
I heard this only happens once every 90 years? last time was 1999 and i saw it through my eclipse glasses on a ferry off the coast of france. darkness lasted 2 minutes…magical! have it on video. I’ll be 99 when the next one happens! lol
wikipedia says the eclipse path is “Southwestern South America, French Polynesia, totality across southern Chile and Argentina, southeastern Polynesia”
So not sure exactly where i’ll be. Maybe i can work Easter Island on this trip
Did this several years ago on a ferry in the middle of the English channel but really want to see another one, if not make it a regular thing and follow them around the globe wherever they may be…
I think this is the most beautiful thing I have seen in my entire life.

Saw it in Romania. Quite a madness it was – Romania released a special issue of their currency (coin and bill) featuring the eclipse.
