...i’ve always been pretty good about writing postcards to my friends & relatives when away somewhere. And si’ve found something in the past few years that makes travelling even more fun & memorable, is writing daily postcards to myself. Some times i try to put down the day’s events in verse, but often its just jotting down those keys little moments of the day in a different place that i find i treasure most when i return home…
:)
You can accomplish this goal very quickly and easily by going to http://postcrossing.com. The goal of this project is to allow people to receive postcards from all over the world, for free. Well, almost. The main line is: if you send a postcard, you’ll receive at least one back, from a random person/place on the world.
Why? Because, like the author, there are lots of people that like to receive stuff by mail. If you add to that, the surprise factor of receiving postcards from random places in the world that you probably never heard about, you can turn your mailbox into a little surprise box.
i used to LOVE getting chain letters in the mail. of course, anyone growing up in today’s world will never really understand what an actual chain letter is. i remember hand-copying five letters, drawing pictures on them, and sending them off, receiving replies from all over the country… boy, was it great! oh, and PEN PALS! i had pen pals from all different countries, and it was such a thrill to get a nice letter from some distant corner of the world. i wish i could bring back this tradition. anyone want a postcard?
