I saw Death Cab and Ted Leo & the Pharmacists last night, which is more than reason enough to start going to shows more often.

    Highlights included:
    > Ben Gibbard’s vocals being absolutely enchanting, and me loving every second of every song being played.
    > Ted Leo & the Pharmacists being an incredible opening act, and doing the most they could with a 30-minute set and a crowd where 75% of them only attended for Death Cab.
    > Spending more money on merch than on my ticket.
    > Waiting in line with a bunch of music lovers.

I was going to go see This Day & Age after class today on the other campus of my University. But alas, I should’ve figured that college-sponsored shows sell out quick when the ticket is only $5.

It seems like I went to one every month in high school. But after Birch Hill and Krome closed down in my area, in addition to the cancellation of the Skate and Surf Festival, I haven’t even really tried to go to another concert since then.

Like previously mentioned with my Cursive goal, time and money are a big reason why I haven’t been able to go. I’m so used to spending no more than $15 for a ticket, unless it was S&S or Warped. But I miss it all. Being the shortest one there and getting slammed into the barricade by the insanely tall men around me, forgetting all of that because I was so engulfed in the music and the moment, meeting some of the greatest people ever at a show and hanging out with them strictly at shows, and of course, purchasing an ungodly amount of merch afterwards because a hoodie was only $20.

People complain because the ‘indie scene’ fanbase has gotten a little out of hand. But why should that matter when you’re there for the music? And if worse comes to worse, you could always kick them and use the excuse that you were attempting to mosh, haha.

    I miss it so much.
