I do not presently need a resume 6 months ago

I do however, want to slowly recover bits of my ten page Vita that disappeared on an old computer. I live in hopes that I will find a paper copy.

I have had a variety of job experiences that I like to be able to pull off my Vita & put on an individualized resume. In my early professional years I did some temp and unique experiences in teaching. I also “worked” for the honorariums, I spoke at a lot of conferences for a few years. All the sites & various conferences I spoke at are gone, but hopefully SOMEWHERE.

I am not presently looking for employment. I have been at the bookstore for 11 years, by far the longest gig I have held. I rarely stayed more than 2 years at any site teaching because I was moving up the ladder.

As long as I choose to babysit the Chunk, my need for a resume is minimal. My daughter is fully aware of my qualifications. If I could run and teach an Early Childhood Program, I am probably qualified to babysit Chunk.

I just feel I need to keep this goal up, in order to remember to log bits as I find them & to remind myself that someday I will go back into the world again.

I now have a “how to write a resume” book. One step closer.

Working on resume. 15 months ago

I have started my resume. I’m finding it difficult to write, however, because I hate “resume speak” so much. I’m using a co-worker’s resume as a guide, since it was re-written by our company’s human resources director, who is supposedly very good at her job. A good share of the sentences make no sense what-so-ever. I’m told they are packed with the right buzz-words to be effective, but this strange world of obtuse language confuses me. I also visited our company’s website to come up with a good, concise way of describing what we do here. I mean, I’ve work here for several years and I have no idea what the words on that website joined together in that particular way mean. Oh well. I’m sure I’ll get there.

Yesterday I passed some fliers around the office a guy from a local sandwich shop dropped off, and I’m thinking I could add that to my resume. How’s this sound? “Highly effective in promotional collatoral distribution for regional sustenance company to validation, quality assurance, technical integration and post-production departments of national corporation.” I don’t know. I may still need to jazz it up a bit. I also figure I’m pretty much the receiving mangager for this joint, since the UPS and Fed-ex people always drop the packages off at my desk because it’s the closet one to the door.

Y’all just watch. I’m going to have the best resume ever!!!

Did not write or even work on my resume this weekend. I’m thinking I need more writing-related things to put on it. Need to write a few more articles and start a blog. Starting a blog was one of the things on my to-do list for this past weekend. Didn’t get it done. I did get halfway through an refresher course on English Grammar and punctuation. That’s all I did this weekend. Not as much as I had wanted.

Well worth doing.

avphibes is getting my household in order

I don't know if I could have done it alone 20 months ago

Well, I put down all of my skills and work experience in bulleted form, but then today I finally sat down with a friend who has more professional experience than me and she went over it with me line by line and got me to cut out all the redundancies and clumsy wording until it was nicely streamlined. Then she even went over some sample resumes with me and helped me pick out a layout that looks very sharp.

mostly done 20 months ago

Well, I have the whole thing written out, I just need to clean it up a little and send it to some friends for review and feedback. I also have to learn how to use indesign so I won’t be lying when I say I know how to use indesign.

Weekend project 21 months ago

Despite all of the other goals that I have listed as something to do over the weekend, I’m making this the priority this weekend.

Time to get it done 21 months ago

I haven’t bothered with a resume for years, have been happy to tread water in the same rut of a job.

Time for a change! First step, write the resume.
