I have 14 in my give away pile. Have I slowed down? hmm. One thing I did notice is I’m less likely to mark things “give away” now compared to when I started this process. I plan to post which ones are up for grabs next weekend-ish. Oh. And I gave away 2 at a party so -17? 2 years ago

I’ve pulled at least 10 CDs to give away and thrown away 2. I gave one away last night. I’m done going through 1 out of 3 CD books. 2 years ago

Today, I decided to get rid of some of my CDs. I am going to rip them to my computer, save them to my mp3 player (once I can find its cord) and give them away. Eyeada & Abilities is on the go list; Good Charlotte was thrown away because the last few tracks were screwed up. I’m on the way. 2 years ago

I finished the perestroika today. The room looks so darned tidy! I put the CDs in categories like: opera, symphonies, sonatas, concertos, etc., and alphabetized each section, mainly by composer or soloist. I think I’ll be able to find whatever I’m looking for now quickly—let’s see how long this order lasts! 2 years ago

As is the case with these organizational things, I had to do several pre organizing things that ended up taking most of the day. I took all the CDs off the shelves, put all the CDs that had no homes back into their proper homes, then I cleared and put away about 50+ books that had started to pile up and stack themselves in front of one of the bookshelves.
Now all the books have homes, and all the CDs too, but the CDs aren’t in order. I’ll do that manana. Now, some drugs for my back! 2 years ago

How I did it: They are alphabetized by last name and I actually did a spread sheet by genre so I can remember who is who. Just about all have been loaded into my iPod and I have dozens of playlists. I wish I'd done this years ago!! Whenever someone's doing a PPoint pres for a birthday or anniversary, or if someone is looking for a song, I can actually help now! Read how I did it… 3 years ago

I ordered a CD cabinet like the one I had when I was married. It has arrived and is unpacked. Now to find a place for it, gather my CDs and get organizing! 3 years ago

A-M is in order. That’s really my goal for the year. It’ll probably be 2010 before you see me here again, unless I make notes about what CDs I got rid of. For the rest of my CDs, I basically need to not mix them in with A-M and consistently put them up, all of them. 4 years ago

I have completed 1/2 of my goal for the year. If I get past J this year, great. If not, well at least I can say I made a solid start. I think I’m going to weed out from the organized book(s). It’ll be easier to know, for example, that I listed to Deltron when Deltron has a specific spot where it goes. Trying other ways, I forget what I’ve listened to and what’s just up next. My book was slightly too small to fit all of my A-E CDS so I’ve moved on to another book. I think that one thing this project is going to show me is just how many CDs I own! 4 years ago

Tonight, I did A & B. It’s a start. 4 years ago

One of my goals, resolutions?, for the year is to begin the organizing. I’m hoping to get through A-M but realize most CDs will fall in that category so I’m forgiving of myself for only getting to J or whatever. In the nearer future, I’d like to get through E. Let the organizing begin! 4 years ago

Okay, I’m gonna buy shelving units, and then organize the CDs in alphabetical order by artist, going left to right. Artists with english names come first, then artists with Russian names, since it’s a different alphabet.
Then for each artist, I’m going to organize the CDs in order of year released. If two CDs from the same artist come from the same year, I will organize them in logical order of which came first (e.g. if there was a tour following the release of an album, the live album from the tour would come after the actual album). You get it.
Finally, I will make sure that inside each CD case, the CD is rotated with the text going left to right perfectly, not at an angle or anything.
That’s pretty much it. 4 years ago

i started to organize it into alphabetical order, but there was no way i would be able to keep it like that because i would have to move everything over once i bought a new cd.
so my system of organization: when i bought it. i have a pretty good memory, so i was able to organize them into which i bought first, second, third, etc.
it took me a while because i had to do 7 years worth of cds, but i did it. it was also pretty cool seeing how my musical tastes differed from year to year.
and just so i don’t have to think about what goes where in case it gets rearranged, i bought a notebook and wrote down the right order. when i buy new cds, i add it to the bottom of the shelf and write it down in the notebook.
totally worth doing, everything’s a thousand times easier to find. 5 years ago

I’m working on this again. I started going though CDs to pull some to get rid of. I’ll go for the “organization” once I have left. This is also working towards my “own less” goal. 5 years ago

I’ve started working on this and it happens to be more time consuming that I anticipated. It makes me questions its worth, actually. Slow but steady will be the plan, I guess. I’ve probably spent 3 or 4 hours working on it and I’ve alphabetized through the Ds. 5 years ago

I’ve been buying music since the late 60’s, so for years I was organizing my records for years. At one point in time I have over 600 records, but now I’m down to about 100 or so.
I organize mine into popular music, compilations, soundtracks, classical and comedy. Within popular I organize by artist last name or group name. Compilations and soundtracks are by title and classical are by composer.
I can generally find whatever I’m looking for fairly easily. I only have 300 CDs, but its still woth having them organized. 6 years ago

While about a year ago I got all of my CD’s put into nice, organized binders, I’ve purchased quite a few CD’s since then that have yet to be categorized and put away.

I would LOVE to get all my music in an ipod. I guess my next goal might be to get an ipod that will hold it all! I have CD’s everywhere. In CD catalogs, in stacks on shelves and my empty CD cases are on shelves (or stacks) giving the impression that they are actually in order. I hate walking in the room and seeing the mess. It’s like a big negative energy zone. I should pay my nieces to do it for me. Anyone to do it for me. That would bring such a sense of relief!!! 6 years ago

This was the first thing on my list of 43 things that I completed. It took about an hour this morning. I should be ok as long as I don’t buy too many CDs at a time or find too many scattered throughout the house that I did not know about. 7 years ago

I have most of my CDs on my MP3 player, but I know I need to load more, and I can’t find all of my CDs.
So, I will try to get them all in one place and alphabetical, so I can figure out what I still need on my MP3 player.
I also still like to pull out a CD from time to time and listen to it, must be something about growing up listening to record albums. 7 years ago

I took all my CDs out of their cases and put them in the Sony 300 CD changer. I put the covers of the CD cases or sometimes just the backs witht he list of songs into an otherwise empty CD notebook. But this time instead of the CDs in the notebook, it’s used as an album to flip through and see what number the CD is inside the changer. I also have a keyboard hooked up to the CD Changer so I can type in a short title for each CD. When I flip through the dial, it shows me just enough to remember what the CD is about. I also grouped them by genre when I loaded them into the CD changer. I don’t have anywhere near 300 CDs to fill this thing but that is good. Leave some space between each category to expand when I get new CDs.
I also like the idea of ripping them all onto a huge hard drive and using my computer like a CD jukebox. 7 years ago

I went through all my CDs and got rid of ones I have never listened too. I have found some gems in there which is exciting. My collection is significantly smaller now, but the quality is absolutely amazing :) I am very glad to have this job done. 7 years ago

I love my CD collection however at the moment I can hardly even listen to anything because I don’t know where anything is. I have a fairly crappy MP3 player which doesn’t hold very much and an even crappier computer which has a heart attack when I try to do anything overly interesting on it, so I still rely on my CDs and need to get them organised! 7 years ago
